Of course you wouldn't be approved. I'm glad you don't sound surprised at the news. Decide what you want to do about it and proceed. It's your choice either way. .

It is very common to be denied because of weight gain as a pre op. They're wanting you to lose weight for two reasons usually. One is to gauge whether you are willing and able to make lifestyle changes regarding diet and exercise. The other is to shrink your liver, as it has to be moved out of the way during surgery. You have reason for concern.

I am worried too!! My surgeon told me not to lose any weight over the next 6 months (I hope to have bypass in April 2016). I am literally borderline for BMI (35.2). I had my psych clearance this week and he recommended I gain a couple of pounds, just to be safe. He did clear me for surgery though!!! I will be devastated if I don't get approved in April!????????

Update please. Most insurance companies require that you do not have a NET gain. You would have to check your companies policy. So if you gained 12lbs , you would need to lose those 12lbs and maybe more by your final weigh in.
