It seems to me that any dramatic diet like the 5-day reset diet (above) triggers our bodies to use up the glycogen we've stored in our livers, which would also trigger our bodies to shed the 7-8 pounds of Water needed to store that glycogen.

But maybe that doesn't happen to sleeved patients ... ?

If you're willing to share, I'd love to hear how those who did this reset diet reacted (in terms of the scale and your appetites) after you went back to your regular weight-loss eating regimens.

Thanks in advance.

Good morning, @@VSGAnn2014 ! I have to say that doing the 5 day reset that my Dr "prescribed" did seem to reset my restriction. It felt like I could eat more before I did the reset than afterward. That being said.....I had a realization during the 5 days of Liquid Protein and that was that before I began the 5 days I was GRAZING! I was grazing on CARBS!!! pretzels to be precise. So, the 5 day reset allowed me to have the head hunger and boredom hunger and not give in to it, whereas I did give in to it before. Does that make sense? So, I think in my case it "reset" my head, not my sleeve.

I am going to begin another 5 day reset on the 3rd. In support of a friend who is starting her preop liquids on that day for her surgery on the 10th! There are about 50 of us from the same employer who are going to support her in that way, and lose a little extra poundage in the process! :)

I'm starting another five days on Monday (tomorrow). I want to break out of the 150s and get away from the Thanksgiving carbs. We are leaving on a two week vacation next Sunday, so this will be a great way to keep the fridge empty except for Protein shakes. :)

@VSGAnn2014 I lost a little over 3 lbs. and didn't gain it back after restarting regular eating, so I don't think it was Water weight, at least not all of it anyway. My sleeve is normally quite tight, so I didn't really notice any less ability to eat than before. It did help to point out where I was giving into the munchies and, once again, reinforce the difference between my head hunger and real hunger.

You all inspired me. I am on day two of liquids. I stalled on weight loss for two weeks so a jumpstart was exactly what I need.

Looked up this thread the other day because my weight has been stuck between 191 and 195 for months. I let sneaky carbs back into my life and they have caused enough havoc.

Today is day 1 of liquids

I'm determined to do this!

I made it to the afternoon without killing anyone. I consider that a win on day 1. B)

Now I just have to survive TONIGHT. Instead of watching TV where I usually like to snack snack snack, I will turn on my treadmill and walk walk walk.

Proudgrammy.....CONFIDENCE! We got it ;)

Good luck to us all. I'm hoping that at the end of the 5 days the scale has moved DOWN.

P.S. - I am now eating about 3oz of Tomato Soup at my desk. It's the MOST DELICIOUS thing I have ever tasted.

@@proudgrammy how are you doing today?

I survived day 1 :)

I am not going to be so cocky as to say "I've got this" but I am happy with how things are going so far. I stepped on the scale this morning and it did go down slightly. I am determined to NOT get on the scale again until Monday morning.

If I can do the 5 days of liquids and not weigh myself until Monday morning I'm going to buy myself the long sleeved Life is Good shamrock t-shirt I've been eyeballing for a while now :D

Here's to day 2 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
