Should I hold off on vacation

Recommended Posts

I am being sleeved then 2.5 months later I'm supposed to go on a Alaskan cruise. Worried that it may be to soon. Very expensive trip. Any thoughts. Where were you after two months

I assume it is all-inclusive... hmmm. Two and a half months is enough time to get yourself on track with your sleeve. My concern would be that you will want to get your money's worth and the small amount you are able to eat will be frustrating for you. On the flip-side, there should be lots of food choices available.

That being said...I would go. There will be lots of things to focus on other than food.< /p>

I don't know anything about you or your situation so it is really hard to advise/make suggestions. I can only talk about myself... I had a crudload of weight to lose.... about 150# or about half my body weight. I was so worried about the honeymoon period and all that that I felt the need to be be pretty strict during the initial phase. I don't think I would have enjoyed a cruise very much at just 2 months out because everyone around me would be eating/drinking and I'd be like... having my 1/4 cup of Protein and some veggies kind of thing.

Now, I am 4 years post sleeve, been in maintenance a long time - no problem. However, I was pretty challenged and learning new ways of living and eating at just 2 months post op.

I have been on several cruises, so here are my thoughts.

If you have cruised before, don't go. That early from surgery, your mind will still be making connections to old paths and behaviors, while your trying to force new ones. I don't even want to go to restaurants I have been to before because of that issue and I'm 5 months out.

If you have not cruised before, then go. But don't plan any strenuous excursions, etc because you most likely won't have your energy level worked out or (worst case) Constipation incontinence problems. Stay low key, bring a case of protien shakes with you and make sure medical personnel on board know your situation. And always eat at the dining room, don't go to the buffets..

I would talk to your surgeon. I was supposed to go on a 4 hour trip from home 2 weeks post-op. My dr said "no way" he doesn't like his patients to travel within the first 6 weeks but after 6 weeks he would be ok with it but he feels the longer you wait the better.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
