PCP office visit

Recommended Posts

I went to see my primary Doctor today because I wasn't feeling well. Flu like symptoms and wanted her to listen to my lungs. Anyway, it turned out ok overall but she said she was worried I was still losing so much weight at almost a year out and would be calling my Surgeon to discuss her concern. They are part of the same hospital system and I know she has a right to do that but I feel a little awkward that she would decide to do that. I'm within a healthy BMI, I have my one year f/u next week which I told her about. Am I making too much out of this? Has anyone ever had this happen?

What does she expect your surgeon to do about the weight loss? Stop it? I don't get why she would take it up with him. If you are healthy and there are no complications from the surgery affecting your health; I don't get what she hopes to transpire when she meets with him.

No, I have not encountered the situation you disclose in your post. However, it is a definite benefit to you that you have a team of physicians who are willing to be proactive to discuss your medical condition and share insights and possible solutions.

About 10 years ago I had 2 different physicians who were very egotistical and "territorial", and refused to discuss my case with each other. Their lack of communication nearly cost me my life.

Kudos to your PCP for their dedication to you, their patient!

Of course I don't know your physician, but she may simply not be familiar with bariatric patients and how we lose weight. If you are still within a good range, then there shouldn't be any reason to worry. If you are at the low end of the range, and you are still losing weight, then there might be reason to be concerned.

As far as her speaking with your surgeon, I would hope that she asked your permission to do so before she just decided to do it. Personally, I would happy to give my PCP permission to talk to my surgeon, but this shouldn't be something they take for granted.

Given you are going for a f/u with your surgeon next week, I would have thought she would just ask you to talk with your surgeon about your weight loss and that the info from your appointment be forwarded to her.

Thank you for the responses. She did not ask my permission but I guess she has concerns. I appreciate her concern...but she should trust that I have a good surgical team. She could see all my notes and appointments from the practice. They are part of the same hospital umbrella. I have that access as well but not as broad. I've known her for years and maybe this is a drastic change to her. She is very conservative in her management of many medical issues but I have no idea where she's going with this. I will just follow-up as scheduled next Wednesday with my surgeon. It just made me feel like I was doing something wrong at the time...probably reading too much into it.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
