Pre-Op Diet Slip Up

Recommended Posts

I don't have a surgery date yet, but my surgeon put me one a diet plan to start getting some weight off. I did great the first wee, no cheating, and lost 10.8 lbs. Now I'm on day 12 and I can feel myself slipping. Last night I had some crackers with PB, and tonight I went to Moe's Southwest Grill with the intention of getting a burrito bowl with only what I can have, but once I was in there I got my usual burrito with all the bad stuff... cheese, sour cream, guacamole, and even chips and queso. It was literally like I couldn't stop myself! Now I'm terrified thinking what if I'm really not able to do this? What if I'm too weak? Please help ????

You're up to it...

If you weren't, this slip-up wouldn't be freaking you out so much...

Ok, so you've screwed up...

We all do it now and then...

Acknowledge it, accept it and move on...

Now is the important time...

This is the part where you make your decision...

It's one way or the other...

Knuckle down and get your shit together...

Or don't...

I'd say you'll get your shit together...

Especially if you read the success stories that are floating around in this forum...

Good luck to you @

Let me know how you're getting along...

As my sister says, "Dust yourself of and go." Learn, forgive yourself, recommit, and move forward.

(My sister teaches 3 and 4 year olds. Most kids cry at that age whenever they fall or bump themselves, but she couldn't handle it. So she asks them if they are bleeding, if not, she tells them to dust themselves and go. After a few weeks, the kids say it to each other. "Ya bleeding? Well, dust yourself off and go!"

If you made it a week without cheating, pat yourself on the back. Then get back to business and move forward. You will be fine. I'm having surgery on Thursday and have been having the thoughts about "can I really do it?" "Or will I mess things up?" I've slipped in the preop but I'm going to just "keep on moving." You will be fine. I try my best to stay away from the places that make my food addiction harder, but that's easier said than done.

Thanks everyone, you're right. I've been doing MUCH better and the experience taught me that the taste of that food wasn't even worth the guilt I felt for eating it, or how I felt after! I'm back on track now and eating my salads, chicken and green veggies. Y'all are the best:

Good luck today! Said a prayer for you - keep me posted on how things went!

Everyone can fall of the horse.

The key is to get up....back into the saddle and keep riding the trail.

The people that fail are the ones that stay off the horse for too long.

I had a terrible time with pre-op, and I only had to do two weeks. I find I can easily fast for two or three days after a big meal, so that is what I did. I know that sounds hard core, but it isn't. I found it easier to do that than to follow any particular diet, since fasting kills my appetite. I lost 7 pounds in 14 days. When I got down to the wire on Clear liquids, I did not cheat at all in the days before the surgery.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
