Feeling depressed

Recommended Posts

@@saraburnett It will pass but you are too early to try to hang out especially with people that don't know you had the procedure done. The time flies by so focus on your recovery and getting out of puréed foods into solids. Just a heads up, even on solids you can't eat much and you may find that things you could eat before will make you throw up. I stayed away from people that didn't know until I was on solids and figured out what worked and what didn't. You have your husband to hang out with and I had my guy friend so the depression was short lived for me but I went through it. I regretted having surgery. He would eat so fast and I felt I wasted his money but it was all in the process. My co-workers hated going to lunch with me because I couldn't eat much. I'm 7 months and now I can fake it and eat a lot more than I could at 3 months.

It will get better. Keep your head up!! Good luck.

I wouldn't recommend isolating myself. It's not about the food, it's about the company. Go, nurse a drink or get Water with a lime in it and focus on enjoying company. Part of this is relearning how to Celebrate and socialize without food as a crutch. I've been going out since I was 2 mths post op. Sometimes I eat, sometimes I get Soup, and sometimes I get nothing. I chat with my friends and have a good time. If you don't make a big deal about it, no one else will. You had this surgery to be able to get out and enjoy life, so go out and ENJOY!

@@saraburnett I completely understand how you feel right now. The depression is setting in and I miss food. It was always a comfort for me that is no longer available. We just have to work through this together.

I had surgery 10/28. I figured it was too early to have hormone dumps already but maybe not. I have been depressed all day. Wondering why I did this to myself. I know it will be worth it and I keep reminding myself of that. I have a couple of friends who have had the surgery and they talk about losing 25 pounds in the first week. I've lost 5. And this "liquid diet plan" the surgeon gave me as a reference is discouraging, to say the least. It says to take in 8 oz in 2 sittings. I'm doing good getting 4 oz in 2 sittings. And it's hard to get my Water in when I'm having to wait 30 mins in between. Like I said. I know things will get better and everyone is different. I just gotta get past these first few days. I would kill for a big, juicy hamburger right now lol.

Yes the liquid diet is horrible!!! It is hard for me still to get the Protein in because the Protein Shakes make me nauseated and not a fan of Protein Bars. I still have days where I question why did I do this but I know why health. I want to be here for my family!! I miss pizza lol. Hang in there!!! I am 7 weeks now and feel like I lose for a couple weeks then don't lose any for a couple of weeks very disappointed but I just keep hoping I will get there.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
