Over the Counter Acid Reflux Pills

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I've been using Omeprazole since surgery. I take one pill in the morning and it helps me for about half the day. At times, I have to take one right before bed.

I want to switch up my pills brand. My doctor said I can use any of the over counters, so I wonder which one people are using. Is one brand better than the other? At my store they have Omeprazole, Nexium, and Prilosec. Would the other two better help me get through the day?

I used Nexium both both before and after the surgery. Mine was RX and then went generic so my copay went down. Yippee.

Prilosec is a brand of Omeprazole.

Nexium is esomeprazole.

I am assuming from the names they are all the same class. If you are using omeprazole already I would try the Nexium.

Some people supplement with Tums too. You might be able to use Zantac with the omeprazole it is not a PPI. Active ingredient is ranitidine. The Zantac website has some coupons

My doc put me on 2 Nexium a day right after surgery. I take them in the AM with my Vitamins, and haven't had any issues with reflux or stomach acids, as opposed to pre-op, where reflux was a constant issue.

I had some reflux issues after my surgery. Pepcid makes a chewable that worked great for me.

Try upping the dosage. I was on 20 mgs and had to increase to 40 mgs. I also adjusted the time I took it to approximately 2 -3 hours before the time I noticed I would have a bout of acid.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
