Did any of you have to take anything to calm you before the surgery?

I am by no means a pill popper but the thought of anesthesia is the reason I have waited this long to have wls. I am 41, and never have been put under.

How did you deal w the anxiety the day before or morning of surgery?

Tell your doctor about the anxiety. He may prescribe a small amount of Xanax to get you through the days leading up to the surgery. Immediately before surgery you'll get some meds in your IV to calm you down before they take you in - this is before they given you anesthesia. I've had a number of surgeries and they always give you a "cocktail" before... it relaxes you a LOT before they take you into the OR.

I was told that I could take my Valium before I came to the hospital but I didn't. They actually gave me stuff for nerves in my IV when I got there and that helped a lot.

However I struggled with anxiety the most after surgery. They kinda wanted to keep me longer because my heart rate kept getting into the 140s. It was bad. But when I got too stressed they gave me Valium and that brought me down to normal.

The hospital should do a good job at managing the stress of it all. They don't just regulate pain, they want you to be emotionally comfortable as well. Just bring up your anxiety concerns with your doctor.

I had my surgery 4 days ago so I have a really recent experience with this.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
