Okay so this is something I have been thinking about a LOT lately. I have been looking forward to my 21st birthday for a while now since most of my friends are older than me and have been dying for me to go out with them. Needless to say, I was so ready to be 21, until I got my surgery date.. My birthday is October 8th and my surgery date is the 12th. NO drinking for me, and now I feel like I can't even go out because I know all my friends are going to push me to drink, I mean you only turn 21 once!

It just bums me out that I don't get to Celebrate this milestone birthday. I know in the long run it will be all worth it to be healthy and happier with life but for the moment I'm pretty bummed. Any suggestions on ways to celebrate and make it memorable while not being able to drink and being on pre-op diet?

who said you can't still celebrate

f you can stop after ONE drink - go for it

afraid of temptation by your friends (and yourself) - don't go there

how about celebrating with your friends in another way

SMALL party, or out to dinner (temptation might not be so bad)

or maybe have a tupperware party

a good friend will understand your new eating situation

they must learn and respect your new lifestyle forever and a day

good luck

I wouldn't drink because alcohol will have an immediate and significant impact on your liver. Definitely talk to your surgeon ahead of time, but if it were me, that close to surgery, I wouldn't risk it.

That said, you can still have fun without drinking. If your friends are true friends, then ask them to respect your decision not to drink.

Have fun and Happy Birthday!

Do your friends know about the surgery? If so, they should understand you can't be drinking so soon before it. Why don't have a celebration this weekend instead? Sure you can't really go out and order drinks, but you could pregame at your house and then go somewhere or you could just get really trashed at your house. Yes, it isn't your real 21st birthday, but it would be a lot safer to Celebrate it this weekend than on the actual date. You could then go out on your birthday, order one or two drinks, which will not hurt you, and celebrate without really ceellleeebbraaatttinngggg.

Enjoy your Birthday. I hate to be the gloomy one here but your surgery is all about taking back control of your life. If your friends can not be supportive now, will they be supportive later when it comes to going out to dinner and such?

Your Birthday is 4 days before your surgery I don't see why you can't go out and enjoy it with your friends. You do only turn 21 once and you should be able to go out and enjoy a couple drinks! Happy early birthday

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
