Post Bariatric surgery after I eat I start sneezing. Why?

Recommended Posts

I had bariatric surgery/ sleeve last July, 2014. I have lose 100 pounds. I am still losing weight just not as fast. Anyway, my issue is that after I eat a meal I start sneezing uncontrollably. Does anyone else have this problem?

Are you over eating? Different people have different reaction that tell them when they are full.Trying timing your meals and measuring to see if at a slower pace and a smaller amount you don't sneeze.

The vagus nerve runs along the top of the stomach, and it controls all sorts of involuntary upper body reactions/movements, like sneezing, hiccupping, and getting a runny nose. Lots of sleevers find that if they eat too much, their tiny stomach is so crammed full of food that it puts pressure on the vagus nerve, which gives you all sorts of weird reactions to being overfull - such as sneezing. So yes, reduce the amount you eat and eat more slowly, and you should find that the sneezing will likely go away. Good luck!

I have done this my whole adult life, before and after the sleeve! Whenever I eat too much, I sneeze. Always have. My grandmother had this too. I've always thought it had a genetic component to it. I hoped it might go away after the sleeve, but it hasn't. I don't overeat or eat too fast very often, so it's only happened a few times since the sleeve.

@@Bufflehead, your explanation is the best I've heard.

Oh my gosh, I thought I was the only one that did this. The past few days I sneeze after I eat and it's a hard sneeze, it hurts!!

I hiccup. LOL

Once I do, I look and ask myself if that last bite is worth the risk . . . nope. LOL

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
