Plant Based Diet

Recommended Posts

At the 3 month mark, my surgeon placed me on a plant based diet . He wants me to refrain from meats 4 days out of the week. Anyone else have this same order? Any suggestions? I'm struggling with it.

Were you having trouble digesting meats? Was there a reason he put you on that diet?

I want to go on a plant based diet as soon as I get the revision....I like the 4 day vegan 4 days a week!!!Did you see a nutritionist for this plan or is it listed because I want to definitely look into it once I get this horrible band out and a revision to RNY....

No trouble digesting meats. I did report to him nausea after eating a bite of a chicken enchilada. Maybe that's why....

Just remember to chew chew chew. And try taking some enzymes. I recommend either chewable American health papaya enzymes or source natural enzymes capsules. I just open the enzymes and sprinkle it on my food. Completely tasteless.

What do the enzymes do?

They help break down food. Your body produces it's own enzymes but as we age it tends to produce less and after bypass our tummy isn't producing near enough. So to help digestion along and prevent unnecessary tummy aches I take them daily.

It helps with the nasty post bypass gas too;)

Something about chicken with me...sometimes ok..other times...not good...rough...vomiting etc. This is commonplace with the band hoping that with the bypass it won't be this throwing up cycle.

My mother in law had the band. She hated it. food always got stuck. She got bypass and loves it.

Im a vegetarian but my husband LOVES his meat lol. In our house we eat ALOT of Gardein products. They are by far the best faux meats Ive had. Fieldroast also makes really good hot dogs. Tofurkey makes a Italian sausage that's really good (its in a red pack) but most of their other stuff Im not too fond of. Gardein is in the frozen section and Tofurkey is usually in produce. Hopefully some good tasting faux meats will make plant based a little easier to transition to.

Thank you! I will definitely go look for this brand. I really appreciate it!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
