I had my surgery Tuesday and I have been miserable. I am nauseous and dry heaving a lot. Can barely drink at all and can't keep down my liquid pain meds so I'm hurting. Has anyone else experienced this?? How long did it last.

Did your surgeon give you a prescription for nausea medication? I took mine around the clock to stay on top of the nausea. Also, if you are already taking a nausea medication and it's not working call the office and have them call in a different nausea medication. Oftentimes you have to find the one that works for you.

Some people get nausea from the pain meds. So if you think that is the case try taking the nausea meds about 30 minutes before the pain medication.

Hope you feel better soon

I had horrible nausea and ended up back in the hospital for dehydration. It was not fun at all. Call your doctor, have them get you a different nausea med if the one they prescribed isn't working. Also, if it's been 48 hours with little to drink you may have to go to the ER to get re-hydrated.

Ugh that Is what I'm afraid. The nurse didn't want to send me home yesterday because of that but everyone else said it was fine. Now it also feels like I'm swallowing rocks when I swallow. This is not what I was expecting. I can barely get out if bed. Even showering made me feel horrible and I usually feel a little better after I shower.

Honestly, call your surgeon right away! Dehydration can be very dangerous if not treated. The first time I was readmitted to the hospital and I was incoherent. It took them 2 days to get me where I needed to be. Don't let it get that bad.

I just spoke to my surgeons nurse today because I have been having such a rough time. She really reassured me that after the 2 week mark I am going to be a thousand times better. Honestly, I feel pretty good today and I was in the ER last night for re-hydration. Please Please Please call you surgeons office. You are not bugging them and they will make you feel better, I promise!!!!!

Same boat I've been in the hospital since my surgery Wed 26

I traveled to Dallas from ATl and there was know way I could have gotten on that plane to fly back without the care that I'm getting now. I dry eaves all night couldn't keep anything down. Couldn't sleep. Sugar went up...but I'm getting better I think they are discarding me today.

Hang in there. Today was a much better day. I didn't need my nausea meds and I actually got out of bed and stayed out until bedtime. Drinking still is difficult, but it doesn't make me want to throw up anymore. My surgeon told me to get sugar free Popsicles if I couldn't get fluids in. They said they didn't care if I needed to eat a whole box to stay hydrated just do it. My hubby also got me pedialite pops. Not so tasty but think they def helped.

That's what I'm eatting alot of too sugar free Popsicles. Still in the hospital waiting on a doctor to release me if possible. I agree for some reason they go down the easiest. I tried Jello it doesn't go down as good.

@radley- I am sorry to hear you are still doing poorly. I have fortunately gotten much better. I started eating sugar free Popsicles and pedialite Popsicles and it really helped. Do you have a good nausea medication?? My dr. did warn me the day of surgery the nausea could last anywhere from a week to a month and that the younger you were the worse it tended to be and for women compared to men it was worse. Something to do with hormones. Don't know if either of these apply to you. I'm 37 and female so not so much the young end but the women end for sure lol.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
