Gurgling Upper digestive tract after eating?

Recommended Posts

I'm 10 weeks post RNY. This week, about 15 minutes after eating (no matter what it is I feel this gurgling in my upper digestive tract, esophagus down to waist. It doesn't hurt and I'm not feeling sick at all, not burping either. It feels like what wheezing in your lungs feels like if you have a cold, but I don't wheeze and its not like it happens when I'm breathing out.

I guess I'm worrying that I might be starting a leak somewhere, is this possible? Or is it something like just eating too fast. I'll probably call the dr on Monday, but I feel a little silly....its an odd sensation.

Has anyone out there had anything like this before? Ideas? I'd really appreciate your thoughts.

Hello! I just had my RNY on Monday and basically since day 1 I've had this same sensation. The nurses in the hospital told me it's pretty common and sometimes lasts forever in RNY patients. It's just your new digestive system getting rid of air, or little air bubbles that are caught in the process of digestion. They said that the only time you should worry at all or call a doctor is if it hurts for a long period of time (like more than a couple hours and it doesn't resolve) or if you are unable to keep food down. Otherwise, it's just your normal digestive process. So if you have no pain and no nausea I totally would not worry about it. If you had a leak or something there would be a LOT of symptoms, and pain and nausea would be the first ones to show up. Hope this helps. ^_^

4 months out and still gurgling! Some times it just a little noise I can hear and other times it sounds like a bath tub draining. My kids get freaked out by it, but it is an every day occurrence for me. I just giggle it off and carry on.

Perfectly normal and it lessens over time.

It drives me crazy! I take Gas-X sometimes and it seems to lessen it but could be wishful thinking or coincidence!

I had VGS and I find myself gurgling when I wake up. It's crazy and it just started 3 months out.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
