9 months post on, slow gradual weight loss...

Recommended Posts

I am down 113lbs. In the last few months I seem to average around 4 lbs a month loss. Is this normal? I was expected at least 2 lbs per week average. Instead around 1 lb a week. I average between 900 to 1000 calories a day. Non weight loss dieting usually nets 2 lbs a week at around 1200 to 1500 calories a day. So not sure what's up. I'm not discouraged as its a lifestyle change and as long as I continue to eat right all will be good just curious about others average loss rate after 6 months or more out of surgery.

Should read post OP

I'm 8 months out and my loss was very rapid at first but has slowed down now. My dr is happy with it and tells me it will be slow but steady from here on. Part of the journey. One day at a time. Congrats on your loss up till now. Stay strong

Congratulations @@nprcowboy on your success and I am glad to hear you are not discouraged as it sounds like you are doing great.nI agree with @@cjnorris about one day at a time, something I try and live by.

I know that moderate or slow loss can be frustrating although I've seen many others on this site with slower loss than yours, but I also see many folks with amazingly quick losses and it is so hard for me to not compare myself.

Forgive me if you already read this, but I posted this last month and have to keep looking at it myself as I am in a bit of a stall... thought I'd share in case any resonate or are helpful. Best of luck!

I am tired of focusing on how much I have not lost. I’ve been eating 80-100 g of Protein, drinking at least 70 ounces Water, staying under 1000 calories and am active. I started at very high weight and expected to lose more than 45 lbs my first 3 months, but I am tired of focusing on what I have not lost instead of what I have gained. I am so grateful for my sleeve and my chance to live a healthier life. This is my ode to losing weight more slowly than expected and the benefits:

  • More time to develop healthy eating habits before maintenance
  • Skin has more time to catch up (more time to lotion!)
  • Shifting focus to NSVs like sitting in booths and chairs with arms
  • Less chance of gallstones
  • Opportunity to practice loving kindness towards myself and being grateful for any positive change
  • Chance to manage expectations – if it wasn’t for WLS, I’d be thrilled with my loss, so why not be thrilled now?
  • Practice focusing on my own wins and not comparing self to others
  • Not having to explain to others since loss isn’t dramatic (yet)
  • Chance to trust the process and not focus on the end (self-care, water/protein/low-carb/active)
  • Redefine success as how I feel, not numbers on scale
  • Understanding this is not a diet, this is my lifestyle now, so what is the rush?

Have you had a benefit to a stall or slower than expected losing?

I'm 10.5 months out and down 120 lbs. My weight loss slowed a lot after I hit 9 months out. I've been so frustrated with it. I'm doing everything I'm supposed to. I'm 6 lbs from goal and just can't seem to get there!

Thanks!!! I hope you're right. The scale is just not moving at all. It's aggravating.

DOS your weight was on the higher side (hope you don't mind me saying that  )

those first months you will loose more than you will the next 6 months "probably"

you lost 113 lbs those first 6 months!!!!

took me the next 6 months to loose 34 lbs (reaching goal of 130 lbs)

i had a llllong stall at 8 months :(

no such thing as "normal"

we all loose weight differently

I am so glad you se to be through your tough time.

I would suggest you focus on the basics: get at least 64 oz of Fluid and getting in all your Protein every day.

What is your Protein goal? Have you been getting at least that much every day?

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
