How to get protein in early on

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone well I am four days post op. My surgeon and Nut allow thicker liquids from day one. So while I have had a few more bites each day and getting more in it turns out my new sleeve doesn't like dairy :/ I was relying on Greek yogurt and Protein shakes to get me through the next 3 weeks. Now I'm at a loss and it's the weekend here in nz.

I have been able to get in some savory stage one baby food and some homemade pumkin Soup. But neither have much Protein in. Just ate them so I wouldn't collapse from lack of calories. And yes they were both allowed food for first few days.

I hated the liquid Isopure. But I just learned on another forum that Isopure also makes unflavored powdered Protein powder.

You could try that.

Good luck.

pureed chili? It may be too soon for that, you could check. I ate the chili from Wendy's or I made it myself. Great source of Protein and Fibre. If you have Syntax, they make some wonderful flavors like Fuzzy Navel, Ice Tea, etc. that you can mix with Water.< /p>

whey Protein is the most important as you know, Fishpond or Australian Sports Nutrition near you? Just watch those protein grams! They can vary so much! I believe that they are NZ or AU based. If not close, you more than likely order online. They may carry some of the brands that have been suggested or can help you with suggestions. Good Luck!

I am lactose intolerant and cannot have milk-based Protein drinks. I used nectar brand unflavored medical grade Protein Powder to add to almost everything I was drinking/eating, like baby fruits, Soups, etc. I also bought nectar brand fruit flavored Protein Drinks. You mix them with Water (I do one packet in 16oz water) so no worries about the milk. Also, I need to drink everything ICE cold or it will not go down very well, so I can use a little less Water and just add ice cubes. They have strawberry kiwi, cherry, grape, iced tea, lemonade, fuzzy navel, caribbean cooler, and more. Hope this helps & good luck!

  1. IsoPure drinks are pretty burly. Try one first before filling the cupboard with it, like I did. Fortunately, GNC happily refunded my money...they're good to deal with.

Plain whey powder has an unfortunate cheesy flavor that is very pronounced in a lot of fruit-based drinks. It blends in well with chocolate or vanilla flavors, however. Plus there's the lactose-intolerance to consider.

I've been relying heavily on lassi, an Indian yogurt-based drink. Very refreshing in the summer, and high-Protein. It can be made with simply spices and a little sweetener, or with fruit...a "salty" lassi can also be made using cucumbers or bell peppers (strain before drinking). There's recipes out on the web for all of it.

There's soy Proteins that come in many forms...tofu, tempeh, miso, and powders. More neutral in flavor than whey. Not sure why soy has the stigma it seems to suffer from...I've always liked it, and it's easy to work with. Miso broth tastes good, and has lots of Protein.

Hummus? Thin it out, though, and eat with a spoon instead of bread.< /p>

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
