Water going down more difficult than other foods

Recommended Posts

Does anyone else have Water going down more difficult than foods? I'm on mush and yogurt,Soups, cottage cheese, ricotta, mush meats whatever goes down just fine... But when I drink Water you can feel it go down, down, get stuck, then dissipate down and fill the belly it's a weird uncomfortable sensation

I think part of the problem is I drink too much and don't sip? But i feel so dehydrated when I sip like I'm not taking enough water, and sipping doesn't make me feel like I'm drinking water. I love water!!

How much can you drink at a time?

I have no difficulties with beverages other than I want more! I found that I want more Water and sipping all day doesn't feel like enough... I too feel dehydrated even though my intake is roughly 64 oz.

I had difficulty for the first few days however since about the end of week one post op I have been able to get 72-80oz of water/liquids down a day with no problem whatsoever. I was so scared about it pre op as I love Water, so I am over the moon that I can drink a lot now! Even my NUT was surprised :P

I had that issue for the first 6 or so weeks. I had to make myself take very small sips and a lot of people on here say cold Water didn't work for them but mine had to be almost frozen for me to be able to drink it without it being painful. smoothies helped me for a couple of weeks the thickness and cold felt really good going down and didn't make me sick.

Yes, plain Water was difficult for me early out. You can try different temperatures (room temp worked best for me) or adding Water enhancers like crystal light.

At four months out it is getting easier for me to drink plain water but I still rely on water enhancers to get a lot of my water in.

Just keep sipping.

I'm roughly a month out and Water is hard. I prefer cold water and my body is fine with it, I just can't get in enough. I have learned that I take in too much with sips, but straws I find myself limiting more intake. No problem with straws.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
