Feeling depressed today

Recommended Posts

Thanks for the info but I ended up having a total gastrectomy and am recovering well. I no longer need the Patches. I experience quite a bit of pain from stomach cramping but patches don't help that. I am told the cramping will go away in time.

Hi @@NoMoreFatGuy, glad to hear you are recovering well from the gastrectomy! I just met with my medical team this morning to discuss my upcoming gastrectomy as my final, experimental treatment at the mayo Clinic has been deemed a failure. The meeting today didn't go very well. There were lots of potential risks discussed due to my complicated history. Death was discussed. Not many positive things were said, unfortunately, and I left feeling overwhelmingly depressed. I'm due to go under the knife in three weeks and am hoping I have a smooth recovery. I must say, hearing that you have had the same thing done and are recovering nicely is great news, both for you and myself! It makes me a little more confident that something they do to me will actually work for a change!

Hang in there and good luck with the rest of your recovery! Hopefully I'll be right behind you.

@@Some Guy

I don't know your history so I can't speak to the risks but I am slowly recovering and the prognosis is good. I did have another leak after the gastrectomy which depressed me tremendously but my swallow study last Monday showed no leak. I am slowly building up my tolerance to food and slowly healing. My drain tube comes out on Monday and my feeding tube should come out in the next couple weeks. They say it will be two to three months til I am anything close to normal and maybe a year to get to totally normal. It is still better than living with the leak for 6 months. I feel like I actually have a future now.

Hi guys. Im a 49 year old woman now and can sympathize with your stories. Your posts are a little old but I just ran across them. I ,too, had a leak from gastric sleeve June 2015 and still have it to this day. I am I guess what you call a "functioning" leaker. I don't run fevers and work and live normally every day. However I have shoulder and diaphragm pain that comes and goes. I've been on pain Patches, pills, etc. Doctor doesn't really know what to do with me. He's scared to go in and do too much because he did one time and I almost died. This leak just will not go away. I stay on antibiotics daily. No other doctor really wants to see me.....will I ever heal?????

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
