Unjury Chicken Soup -- Am I doing it wrong?

Recommended Posts

I have surgery in a couple of weeks so this past week I ordered the sample package of powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury products and bariatric Vitamins.

I'm on my two-week liquid diet right now (this is day 6) and while the headaches the first few days were uncomfortable, I'm feeling great on all of these liquids and I'm already in ketosis. But the low/no sodium chicken broth I use to try and break up the Protein shake regimen is just...just awful. I miss the sodium! Any flavor, really. So today I decided to try mixing my boring broth with one of the Unjury chicken Soup flavored powders.< /p>

On the packet it says to mix with 140 degrees Water and they sent me a thermometer, so making sure it was the right temp was easy. But when I mixed the powder and started stirring it, it didn't seem to be dissolving very well. So I tried pouring it all into a blender shaker, which seemed to help a little, but a lot of the powder was still separating on the top no matter how hard I was shaking it. I tried drinking it...but chewing through the clumps of powder was not palatable texture-wise. Which led me to straining the mixture back into my bowl. There was a lot of the powder left in the little strainer! Fortunately, the broth was delicious and had much better flavor, and I could see smaller particles of the powder had made it in, but it seems unlikely that all the Protein of the packet made it in with so much powder left in the strainer...

So what happened to keep it from mixing all the way? Am I only supposed to try mixing the powder with Water? Is the broth too different for it to dissolve in? Or could I possibly have lost too much heat between all the transferring and straining for it to dissolve completely?

Any help with this would be great!

Came home went for a mile walk relaxed a bit and ate rest of egg for lunch. My stomach is so bloated and vomited now feel like s it. Wondered if this would happen. "Yes Virginia there is bloating after food" Husband wants to go out for his b day don't wanna ruin it for him. So suffer I will and lesson I learned.

@@dsheive, you might want to start your own thread, instead of posting in a thread about unjury Protein. Also, your stats say you had surgery 1999? maybe that's the default if you don't enter a date?

It does seem like a lot of solid food to be eating so soon after surgery - sausage? Which surgery? What does your food plan say you can have at this stage? Most people are still only eating soft blended foods.

@@theother_onefoot I mix mine with a little bit of room temp Water first using a small wisk and then blend with the warm water. Works well for me!

I put this in pureed veggies. I thought the texture was the carrots. Well, now I see I am not the only one that had this issue. Same as you, I do like the taste. I pureed veggies in broth. Let everything sit til room temp before adding. I am wondering if I should be mixing Proteins in food in Ninja then freezing, instead of adding after. But you're saying your Unjury chicken Soup was the same really makes me wonder.

I have 2 containers of the chicken Soup flavor on order, so this post was timely, thanks! And regarding the salt-free broth, I wasn't told to limit my sodium, at least not on my pre-surgery liquids. Was that in your post-surgery instructions?

I agree with @@drmeow, at week 3 you should only be eating mushy (soft) food, or even pureed food. I found a link to the big gastric sleeve diet guide online which outlines the stages of post-op diet very clearly. Here it is, hope it helps!:

@@Dawn306 - yes, the office told me I should limit sodium, though I didn't have any weight loss requirements during this liquid diet. And they still allowed a sour pickle or half of one a day, so maybe they just didn't want excessive sodium besides what they allow because of Water retention?

A couple things I learned about the Unjury chicken Soup. First, it taste great! It was a lifesaver for my liquid diet phase. Second, it is really important not to get the Water too hot. The first time I used it I was traveling and used the hot water from the coffee maker in the hotel room. Turns out this is too hot, and I basically cooked the whey. I try to keep it well below 140 temp now. Also, important note from that same trip... DON'T make this in a closed shaker (I used the kind with the metal spring ball inside). The pressure built up too much and the lid popped open mid-shake! Needless to say I was cleaning chicken soup off the ceiling. ????

@@MzB - unfortunately I learned my lesson with the shaker too late! I don't know why I didn't realize that would happen.. But I, too, was cleaning up a mess all over the kitchen, haha

@theother_onefoot- just curious how your diet is going? When do you move to soft foods?

@@MzB - the liquid diet went pretty well for Pre-Op and I lost about 12~13 pounds total. But I just had surgery yesterday morning so I don't have much experience with the liquid diet post... They said it will be at least 1~2 weeks before moving on to anything pureed and from there to soft foods

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
