What's your "weight loss pet peeve?"

Recommended Posts

Pet peeve - going out with a group of friends and they eat appetizers, main course, dessert and several bottles of wine... I have a salad or appetizer... At the end of the meal they say "Let's just split the check.". Since I haven't told too many people about the wls, I don't want to bring attention to it. So, in the past few months I haven't joined the gang...

I keep meeting people that are morbidly obese, yet say that they hardly eat anything everyday. What? It really comes down to an overabundance of daily calories and lack of exercise when you are more than 100 pounds overweight. It just seems that some have the hardest time admitting that they are an overeater. Even on this forum, I have read posts from others saying they never over ate and got very obese from psych meds and hypothyroidism alone. Sorry, no. Meds and thyroid problems will not cause more than a 10-25 pound weight gain.

Such denial will really get in the way of weight loss success after surgery.

You know? This reminded me of my sister, she is about 400lbs, mind you I know this girl my whole life and know she doesn't have any illness that contributes to her weight loss, she had the lap band done but didn't lose any weight (I read that it isn't very effective but people still lose some weight?) and kept eating the same way; however, she keeps telling people she has a tumor that makes her gain weight ????

Just to clarify!! I'm not saying it is easy to lose weight and if you have a problem with food I know it is very difficult, I just never understood the Tumor talk, specially when people didn't really ask her

On the menu at the bar on bike nite, "Tacos, $1.50 each". Me "Perfect, I'll have one taco"! Waitress: "Oh we only sell them in three's. One is too much trouble for the kitchen when it's busy".

What the actual eff? LOL

I did end up talking them into selling me ONE but I don't even bother with food there anymore.

My mother, whose always been pretty thin. She compliments me on my weight loss and then tells me about any weight she has lost and that she's fitting into a size eight. Now granted she's seventy four and it's good that she's an eight,but..

That's the kind of mother who creates fat children with eating disorders. I've got one of those. Always competing with her daughters.

Tell the waiter you need to pay with your own credit card so please put yours on a separate check. Then make sure you do put your share of the tip in. Let the rest split the check and it's no worries for you.

u

I think my pet peeve is when people say, "oh your husband must be so happy now." News flash people... My husband has been happy and loved me fat, thin, young and older. Why do people think your spouse is miserable if you are fat. That is my pet peeve.

1. them: your husband must be all over u now (more than one occasion said exactly like that by different ppl)

me: what do u mean? I've always been sexy.

them: (back pedals) i just mean.....

2. them: how much weight have you lost?"

me: i don't tell people, but a good amount"

3. them: dont lose any more weight or you're not going to lose anymore are u?

me: (depends on the person) whatever/dismissive or i say when i get to my goal weight i will

4. them: what have u been doing? (some seemed like they wanted to ask if i had wls but didn't. well one did. someone that doesn't talk to me just trying to be nosey and gossipy)

me: (i really didn't tell anyone until goal) oh just Protein Shakes and exercising. if im really tired of the question i say i burn more calories than i consume ????

5. them (mad): why go out to eat you're not going to eat anything anyway (the few ppl that did know)

me: (mad. i mean what the hell) i physically cant it that much! defeats the purpose anyways

6. waiter: and what will you be having

me: oh nothing. (they get confused so me or hubby have to explain we're sharing)

there are other peeves but i will leave u all with those. im not always a smartass or mean. sometimes i just smile or something and keep it moving ????

im starting to tell ppl (since my mom finally knows i had surgery) especially the ones that have had the same weight struggle and i explain it to them. i tell them, it was hard but it was worth it!

@@Shadow427 Oh that's rough! I wouldn't want to split either, you could always eat before and tell them you already ate but you could still go out to chat with them.I would be going to a coffee house, it's hard to split up a coffee tab! Lol!

How about ordering more of a normal portion of food (like what your friends order) and boxing most of it to take home? It will cost more, but you'll at least walk out of the restaurant with a meal or two for another time. Maybe you'll have less resentment about the bill? and you won't miss out on the fun!

@@Elode, I love your snarky hubby and kids. They sound just like mine (and, yes, they got it from me, too).

I hate the saboteurs, those "friends" and loved ones who wave something you can't have in your face. My surgery isn't until tomorrow, so maybe it's easier to resist after WLS? But I sure had them when I tried to lose on my own before. Then there was my mom, who knew I had lost 75 pounds since the last time we saw her. Flew out for Christmas, and she gave me an outfit that was 4 sizes too large and then pouted because I wouldn't (it was falling off me!) wear it.

Today's peeve shall be the newbies who want to know when they can have pizza and or a cocktail

Ya just gotta change your mindset

And wait several months before you can question anything

This is not an off and on program as far as I can tell.... Surgery is there to afford you the wonderful opportunity to change your life????

My pet peeve...hard to decide on just one. I have a friend who had the RNY. She started around 500# and got down to 200#. She posts pics of what she eats, on Facebook. Very high in fat, calories, and sugar, like Mexican and Desserts. She also likes to comment on my posts, about my success or distress over gain, saying things like my husband and I can fit into my old pants, etc. I even saw her in person, once, and she said she didn't recognize me because I looked so old. I don't think I do, but I started using facial moisturizers and dying my hair, religiously.

My husband likes to try and get me to eat junk, too. He'll be like, you deserve it, you've lost so much. I secretly think he wants me to gain more weight back, as he likes big women. *sigh*

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
