My highest weight was around 450#, on my wedding day, 05-13-2006. I tried Atkins, lost about 80#, and got back up to 436# months after I quit. I couldn't walk, nor get out of bed, without help. Basically, I just existed. I was getting bedsores and my knees hurt due to having degenerative joint disorder. They were bone on bone. My right knee started popping out, causing me to fall. A friend of mine had the RNY, so I started looking into weight loss surgery. I was undecided on whether to get the VSG or RNY. When I met with the surgeon, he said I would have to lose 150# for the RNY, but only 40# with the VSG, with the possibility of a revision, in the future. He also didn't think I'd be able to lose the weight to have the RNY, as I was in a wheelchair and couldn't be very active. I decided on the VSG, since they claimed weight loss was about the same as the RNY. I was 383# the day of my surgery, 02-18-2013. Since my primary insurance denied any bariatric programs, Medicare paid. I had a $1350 copay. I got down to 211#, when I had my knee replacement on 04-29-2014.. Eventually, I could eat more, and the hunger returned. I got back up to 301# by January of 2016. I am currently waiting on test results to see if my stomach may have stretched. I have had nausea and trouble swallowing since my surgery. It was discovered that I have bad reflux, even though I've been on Prilosec since then. I didn't realize that the nausea or difficulty swallowing were symptoms of reflux. Hoping to get approved for a revision surgery. Right now, I have joined a gym and am watching my calories, closely. I average 1400 a day.
