Almost 3 weeks post op and still hungry

Recommended Posts

Hi all. I am new to this site. I had my surgery on 7/8 so on Wed I will be 3 weeks post op (lap band). I have been really diligent about straight Protein plus cream of wheat or oatmeal. My issue is I'm starving! I'm sure after the band gets tightened in 2 weeks I will start to feel it but right now I feel like I can eat anything and everything. I feel totally normal like I did before surgery. I've been on pretty much solids since the first week (turkey meatballs and ground stuff like that) but I'm definitely missing little things like baked chips and even a salad! LOL Hoping others are having a similar experience? TIA

First, eating solid food that soon after surgery can cause complications. I was on 2 weeks of liquids, 2 weeks puree, and then 4 weeks of soft food. Different doctors have different rules, but be careful with what you eat early on while you are healing.

Right before I had my first fill at 6 weeks, I was pretty much in the same boat, where I totally felt like I could eat the same as I could before. After my first fill it got significantly easier, and I was less hungry. I am still dealing with hunger issues, but I also have a pretty small amount in my band. I have been able to consistently hit my calorie goals, but if that changes I will be going in for another fill.

Thank you. Yes my Dr have me a menu for first 4 weeks which includes ground turkey eggs and fish. As long as they are soft and chewed a lot. Hoping after the first fill I feel better. Never thought I'd miss salad I much lol

I'm also almost three weeks post surgery. My surgeon was Dr. John Angstadt. I've not had a fill yet, but I'm not hungry. I am having trouble sipping Water. I want to drink it faster. I notice I'm probably eating a little to fast as well. I've been stick to ricotta cheese, mushed egg with Mayonnaise, yogurt, cream of wheat, sugar free Jello and sugar free ice pops. I also had a Protein Drink the first two weeks. I stopped drinking with my meals before surgery. I just have to keep reminding myself not to drink while eating.

For the first 2 weeks after surgery I was able to eat very little and be satisfied for up to 4 hours after eating, however, on day 16 it was like a switch flipped and I became a bottomless pit. I'm constantly hungry and feel as if I could eat a horse. I have been following my pre op and I even try to make my mealtime last up to an hour, but it doesn't help. I've been eating way more than I fell i should be able to and I am scared I did something wrong. I literally on the verge of tears thinking about this. I want a fill asap but I know they will make me wait. I see the dr on Tuesday. I am hoping he doesn't yell at me for the 2 lbs I have seemed to gain.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
