Everyone in my church knew I was having gastric sleeve surgery. The first time I made it back after my surgery everyone was saying "you look like you've lost a lot of weight" When in reality, I hadn't lost but 2-3 lbs since the surgery. So pet peeve #1, the unwarranted comments about my weight. #2 is the constant question, how much have you lost so far? Really, I just saw you two days ago, this journey takes time. Its those people that haven't seen me for a while and comment on how good I look that make my heart sing!

This is kinda like a cross country road trip with a couple of kids. How much further? Are we there yet?

Thankfully, I have a sense of humor about this and I can face anything anyone throws at me! This surgery was an answer to a long time prayer. I knew I wouldn't be able to do this without God at my side and he has seen me through it all.

and I do appreciate my church family. I have gotten so much love, support and encouragement from them.

That's another reason I chose to only tell a select few. I was afraid they would feel the "need" to constantly compliment me, which would in turn lead me to doubts as to whether they're being truthful, or just saying it to make me feel better. And the other part was I didn't want a bunch of peripheral people making judgements on how fast I'm losing (or not losing), and my choices in diet.

I honestly believe your church group cares deeply about you and wants only the best for you, but ultimately this journey is 10% external and 90% internal. That's hard for people not going through it to understand.

They are also looking at my progress to see if it could work for them or the family.

My pet peeve.... In a restaurant;

Waiter: what can I get you to drink

Me: nothing thank you

Waiter: so you just want Water?

Me: no, nothing thanks

Waiter: you don't want anything to drink?

Me: no

Waiter: are you sure?

Me: yep sure

Finally my friend intervenes and looks at the waiter sympathetically and says "don't mind her darlin she is just weird. But we love her anyway." Lol

Is everything ok with your food?

Yes.

Are you sure?

Yes, thank you.

No, really. If you don't like it, we can make you something else.

It's fine, I'm just not very hungry.

Are you sure?

Yes.

Can I bring you something different?

...

...

<blank state> NO! ^%%*^ %%€}^!!

My pet peeve isn't about others, but about myself and they fact that I cannot drink as much as I want. I love ice Water (never a big soda fan) and want to consume plenty at once, and am frustrated that I can't. Or that if I take in too much at once that I feel sick after. I wish that this would get better over time, but from what I've heard it doesn't.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
