I haven't had surgery yet but I thought it would be a bad idea to ask those who have had surgery about your activity levels after surgery. I signed up for a women's weight training class and Pilates, my surgery is August 4th. I will have about two weeks to recover before going back to work and then a week later I start school and those gym classes. Does anyone know if it would be a good idea to do a weight training class and Pilates? Anyone try these classes before, after their surgery? How was your experience! I would appreciate any responses!

Thanks!

My had surgery on July 20 I feel pretty good. About 85%. Very min pain. I been walking the dog daily 3 times a day. I would love to go bike riding or even try a little running but worry that I pull something or cause more pain. My dr said I could but might just wait a little longer

You should check with your doctor as I was told no lifting for 6 weeks. Even though the incisions on the outside are minimal, there is a large incision on your stomach that needs to heal.

I started walking right away after surgery. I was released to do weights after 6 weeks. I now do cardio 3 times a week and weights 2 times a week sometimes 3. We are all told no heavy lifting until released to do so. Give your tummy time to heal after surgery but walking is great for you! We only have a small window to make the most of the surgery. Get moving as soon as possible!!

Your surgeon will let you know when you are cleared for exercise.

I'm assuming you've never had surgery before? Usually 6 weeks is the magic number, but like I said, wait for your surgeons clearance.

Did you do weight training and Pilates at any point before surgery?

Does it seem like a good idea to jump into these 3 weeks after surgery?

What does your doctor say about this?

@@Dub I was told about taking it easy for 6 weeks, I decided to not take the Pilates for obvious reason haha, I ended up switching to indoor cycling. I also decided to keep the weight training class, I think that as long as I explain my situation to my instructor she/he will be understanding and allow me to use smaller weights instead of jumping head on to larger ones. Right now I'm currently using a 15 lb kettlebell and don't feel as sore anymore. I definitely plan to take it easy but also don't want to just sit around.

@@Babbs yea I've never had surgery before. I'm actually a little nervous now haha

I fully understand not wanting to sit around.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
