What you wish you would have known

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm Jackie. New to the site....I got my surgery date yesterday for August 5th! Super excited! Starting my two week pre-op plan tomorrow. Any words of advice? Anything you didn't know before hand that you wish you would have?

thanks!

Hi and welcome to the site. My op date is 25 August - I can't wait and have absolutely no doubt I am doing the right thing. I have, however, just found out that I will have to have blood thinning injections for around 21 days after the operation - self administered! Bit of a surprise but hey ho!

@@jfzimmerman - Hi I was sleeved on 5/6/15....I wish I had known that just because I was the first surgery of the day that I would not get the "leak test" done early the following day. I knew it was supposed to be the next day but it was almost lunch time.

How damn hard this can be at times. Especially emotionally.

Most of us have relied so much on food for comfort, boredom, celebration, sadness, etc....and learning other coping skills besides turning to food can be a hard pill to swallow.

But I also didn't know how great it would feel to finally be in control of what goes in my mouth and seeing my weight decrease because of that. The rewards are endless!

Welcome! I'm still pre op, but I wish I hadn't worried so much about getting through the approval process.

I swear I invented things to worry about along the way!

And I hope to never take for granted this second chance I've been given. Honestly, right now I feel like the luckiest woman in the world. And that alone is worth everything I had to go through to get here!

Thank you Babbs! I'm really excited to continue this journey (I feel like I started the moment in walked in my surgeon's office). I've always been a heavy girl, but decided it was time to do something about it. Its about how I want to live the rest of my life! I'm looking forward to eating like a "skinny" person. I know its going to be tough at times but I have a great support system and am so glad I found this website.

I wish I would have known that I would truly relearn how to eat again. Yes, the information is right in front of you, but doing it correctly is a different story!

I wish I had been prepared for how the small amount of calories and effects of the anesthesia would affect me mentally. I own my own business and my brain just wasn't working properly for about a month. I officially know what it feels like to be stupid and I didn't like it!! Otherwise everything was as expected.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
