VSG and marathons.

Recommended Posts

My husband should be having his Band to VSG revision in late September or early October. He wants to run the Disney Dopey Challenge in January 2017, so 15 months post sleeve. The Dopey is. 5k Thursday, 10k Friday, half marathon Saturday and full marathon on Sunday. He is not at all worried about the distances, but his concern is being able to consume enough calories/carbs and hydration to make it through all of those miles.

Any WLS marathoners out there who could provide some insight and guidance. This past January he did the Goofy challenge which was the half and full. He walked it but finished within the time limits. 80-100 pounds lighter, the stress on his body will be so much less, and he will be able to run at least some of it. Thanks!

I will reply more later when j have the time but it's totally do able! There are a few of us on the boards who run. I did my first marathon six weeks ago, 18 months post sleeve. Nutrition is something to pay attention to but can totally be done!

Just came across this topic... I was sleeved in January of this year. I am in mid training for a October Marathon... my first since 99. Curious to see how others are handling nutrition with their training. Particularly balancing carbs and Protein as well as prerun, mid run and post run nutrition. Thanks!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
