Hello! I have been following these boards for quite some time. I was sleeved on Monday and am having a very hard time drinking. When I sip I feel gurgling on left side then pain and pressure. Do I just have to push past this to get my fluids in?

@@klova914

congrats on surgery the other day, (Wednesday) :)

sorry you are having pain, gurgling, pressure when drinking Water

try drinking Water at room temperature

that can help you feel better - improve the situation

people will give their good responses, thoughts and opinions, experiences

at the end of the day do whatever your NUT/surgeon tell you

give them a call

tell them i say hi too ;)

healing thoughts being sent your way :)

good luck

speedy recovery ;)

kathy

edit....edit

just read a bunch of good posts explaining the pain and gurgling :)

i wasn't aware this was a "normal"/common problem

i never experienced the issue @@klova914 described

in this case...i responded too soon about something i didn't really know existed :(

ooooops

i made a mistake "once" before too :(

i thought i was wrong :o:D

good luck

kathy

Hi there -- congrats on being on the other side!

You asked: "Do I just have to push past this to get my fluids in?"

Short answer: yes. I had the same issue, as have many posters here. It's not easy to navigate, but in a relatively short time things will improve. Each day should get a little easier! Hang in and perhaps try sucking on a popsicle to get in some fluids. That helped me.

15 cc every 15 minutes. More than this will cause that pain and pressure. Slow wins the hydration race. I was sent home with medicine cups to portion out Water and my Protein Shakes. Watch the clock and just get it in. Don't get behind or you will be super dehydrated and dizzy. Each day will get better. You will be able to double to 30cc every 15 minutes in a day or two.

congrats! and yes the gurgling reminded me of a slow moving drain! it took about a week or so for me to not feel awful when i drank Water or Protein.

i did one oz every 15 min as well, rotating Water and Protein.< /p>

i would set up shot glasses to remember lol

welcome to your life!

:P

I have to admit that drinking through a straw was the only thing that worked for me. I know they say not to, but I can't drink any other way. I think it helps me control the amount that goes in at one time.

You might try Propel Water. It has sodium in it and is easier for our bodies to digest. Have you tried Gas X strips. They seemed to help also. Pushing through is a big deal at this point in your journey. You do not want to get dehydrated. Any form of liquid counts, Popsicle, Jello, broth, etc. Just keep up the hard work. It will get better each day.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
