Sometimes I get so mad when people can sit there telling me that the way to lose weight is to exercise and eat healthy. Do they not think I've done that?! Have they ever been in my shoes?? Just another reason why I don't want to tell people at work I am having surgery...

You are (or are going to be) eating healthy and exercising in order to lose the weight! The surgery is a tool to increase the likelihood you will do both successfully.

Agreed with @sleevenv. The plan is to eat healthy and exercise so in a way you will be doing the things they say but with an added tool of the surgery. If you don't wish to tell them then don't. You should only share with those that will support you not tear you down. When they ask what you are doing then you can say that you are eating healthier and exercising. It is none of their business unless you want it to be.

Good luck!!

Aren't those people the ones who have never struggled with their weight? LOL They don't get it that it's not simply calories in and calories out, we are not a piece of machinery but are a complex system effected by DNA, emotions, health, environment, hormones, etc., etc.. What the "easy way out" people don't really understand is that the equation remains the same after surgery, but we're still going to have to do the hard work to lose excess weight. The easiest way out is to do nothing. I too didn't say anything to most of my co-workers, but you're not going to hide the visible changes, however, although people notice I've found most don't say anything and those that do, I just tell them I'm getting my weight under control. Good luck!

And that's exactly what you're going to be doing. With the added benefit of of a little tummy :)

I find myself having to control my eyes from rolling when I hear thin people make such pronouncements. Do they think all obese people are stupid and without willpower? Most of them wouldn't last a day on the diets we've been (temporarily) successful on before resorting to WLS. They really don't get it.

I find that people who are super judgmental of it truly have no idea what the process entails. I am thankful that I work with nurses and they totally understand the challenges we face and what we have to overcome to be successful with the surgery! What matters most is that you are making a decision that will greatly improve and impact your health - their opinions are moot.

The worse part of this is that I am a RN and these were other RNs saying this about it all. Secondly. How am I suppose to keep it to myself when the hospital I work at is the hospital I'm getting my surgery at? I know we have hippa laws..but I still worry about being talked about behind my back. This sounds so juvenile when I I read it ..but it is how I feel.

Don't you just want to look at them and say, "Oh, my God! I had nooooo idea! Thank you so much! It's so simple an idiot could figure it out. And to think I never thought of that. Boy, I should have just talked to you rather than an actual doctor. You really are an f*ing genius!"

Voice needs to be dripping with sarcasm while rolling eyes ????

This is the response I want to give to Doctors who throughout the years treat everything with: you need to lose weight.

The absolute worst was when I twisted my knee in aerobics class and the very young, very thin, did I mention very young, doctor said she couldn't do anything for me but that I needed to lose weight.

"Gee, I wish I would have thought of that."

Why in the world did she think I was injured in the first place. Normal weight people get sports injuries all the time. Somehow, they manage to get treated.

I used to be one of those that said I would never resort to WLS and it was the "easy way out". Well, I'm here on this forum eating crow. I'm wanting WLS myself and learning all about it. Within the past 2 weeks that I've been doing research I've learned that it's not the easy way out, that there is still a lot of work to it. I'm glad that it's a tool that will help jump start the weight loss so that seeing some loss will bring on more motivation to exercise and eat right.

I know what you are saying. I am the type of person that normally doesn't care what others think of me...or my opinions and choices. But I hear it about others and it ticks me off...like we don't have enough concerns! Since I've chosen to tell basically no one, I don't hear it about myself. There is my husband, my daughter, one sister, and my best friend that know, all of which support me. I've told my boss that I need surgery, but did not say for what. Everyone thinks they are an expert. I can guaranty what I will say if this happens to me, "Good thing I don't care what you think about it. I suggest you do that for yourself and let me to my own choices."

Trust me, I know! What makes it worse is I got that attitude from my own sister! Everyone else has been super supportive.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
