I didn't have popcorn at the movies yesterday. I want my first popcorn post surgery (I'm just over one year out) to taste good and be relatively healthy. That means homemade, and not microwave. I'm definitely going to have it in the next couple of weeks. The popcorn odor at the theatre has awoken my popcorn awareness. I just hope I can eat it responsibly now. In the past I used to over indulge.

I had popcorn about two weeks ago for the first time post surgery. I asked the dietician at my 3 month post op visit if I could have popcorn- she approved it. My husband and I "shared" a small size at the movie theater, I think I ate about a cup. It was delicious and I tolerated it just fine. Here's to happy popcorn eating (occasionally)!

Popping your own popcorn on the stove top is a good choice. I add no salt. a little butter...very good!!

popcorn has always been one of my favorite foods. Post surgery, I've had to be very careful with it and don't eat it very often. Movie popcorn is off limits, it makes me sick. I think it's all the oil.

Skinny Pop or Smartfoods light white cheddar are good and both around 35 calories a cup. If you prefer homemade, a good option is adding a little oil and salt to 1/4 cup of kernels and put in a brown paper lunch bag. Put in microwave for 2 minutes and serve. Makes about 3 cups which is more than I can eat but it's the easiest way to make a small amount of popcorn.

Put you some popcorn seeds in a small brown paper sack and pop it in the microwave. Easy clean up! My NUT said no popcorn....I didn't ask if forever? She said it lays in your stomach for days and maybe weeks....hard on your digestive system

popcorn always reacts with me as ruffage so it's caused me dumping. Everyone is different, and if in a small amount I'm ok, but my not so smart side kicks in and says eat more so I get sick. But it's so good!! :-/ agree, eat your first serving at home so you know how you react!!! :)

I love Skinny Pop and eat it all the time. I haven't had any issues with it. It has all natural sunflower oil and salt.

I just figure it to be a real treat. I used to pre surgery have movie theater popcorn every night maybe even two. but now I air pop and use my fat allowance to sprinkle real butter on top. I only allow it a couple of times a month.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
