Vacation 3 weeks post-op?

Recommended Posts

Considering dates for my sleeve surgery, and the one that looks the best and most convenient is in July- just 3 weeks before a 1-week boating vacation. We will have a house, so having to prepare my own stuff won't be an issue. So I need some advice from those who have already had their surgery. Would you do it? If I don't do it, I will likely have to wait until October. Thanks!

I went into soft foods at week three. So, if that is where you will be with your plan, it's do-able. Just don't expect to have a whole lot of energy or be able to do any carrying of equipment except maybe your favorite pillow. You won't be swimming yet, I don't think. Most of us don't get the ok for any vigorous exercise until about six weeks. If you go, just lay in the shade and take it easy......it's a vacation.

Ok, that's defi a no then! Thank you. I hadn't thought about not being able to go swimming! It will likey be 100 degrees or more where we are going, so that's a problem. I might just have to wait until October.

I would'nt go on a vacation at 3 weeks out. Still tired and trying to figure out my diet and routine.

I would've been miserable going on vacation 3 weeks post op. I'm 6 weeks now, and just starting to be able to feel normal!

I went on a beach vacation at four weeks post op. I did fine except for occasionally wanting some kind of unhealthy snack like everyone else was wolfing down. Those feelings passed very quickly though. My incisions had completely healed by then and I had my doctors ok to swim. I just relaxed, took long walks on the beach and enjoyed it. Good luck with your surgery!!

I was allowed to go in the pool/spa at two weeks and bath at one week so you should be fine going in the sea! I was still on puree at week 3 but that is manageable just eat lots of soup/yoghurt/mozzarella cheese etc. your issue will be getting enough Water in if it's hot but it's totally manageable!

If swimming is the deal breaker don't dismiss it out of hand. Ask your surgeon what HIS/HER protocol is. No one else's experience matters. You are HIS/HER patient.

I know my surgeon does single incision surgery, but I don't know if he always does. I will call them next week and find out. I think it's odd that I don't have another appointment with the surgeon after my first consult. I will just go in the day before for pre-op.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
