Cannot eat! Wasting away

Recommended Posts

It's been 6 months since my original gastric bypass, which I then had reversed to a sleeve about three months ago.

I still cannot eat without vomiting and pain. Sometimes, some days, I can do yogurt or a pretzel. I sometimes can handle cheese and Soups. But there are many days I can't.

I haven't had more than 300 calories a day in six months.

With the sleeve everything hurts and feels like it gets stuck and I have to make myself throw up to feel better.

Anyone else experiencing an inability to advance their diet at three months?

What does your doctor say?

Sorry that this is happening. does your doctor know? sounds like you are on the road to malnutrition if not already there. one can be malnourished even if overweight. what is your wt/bmi? if critical - maybe time for feeding tube - J tube/Mickey or something other than PICC line. start first with your MD. I struggled with same symptoms and my GI doc did not believe me until he popped in right before a nasojejunum tube was to be placed. he was shocked when he saw me. after i was strong enough for a J tube (about 31 days later), off to the OR. had a j tube for about 14 months maybe. (you can find my thread if interested).

In any case, advocate for yourself or present to the ER if your doctor won't see you. If you have been on your stated diet - it will reflect in your appearnace, lab work, etc. Please follow up with your providers............................and let us know your progress.

My BMI and blood work still comes back okay, for now. I'm losing about 2-5 pounds per week. I can only lose another 15 pounds max before I am going to look skeletal.

I do take some Vitamins which is helping but most of them I can't take because they make me sick with no food in my stomach. It is so difficult for me to eat!!!

I'm heading to an appointment with a new bariatric surgeon today because the one that did my surgeries is a dick.

I had a stricture that prevented me from getting more than 500 calories a day for about 6 months. I drank Premiere Protein (bluuuurrrrrrrp!) just to get in my Protein twice per day. I stayed on purees and mushies for almost three months.

I still have days where it's hard to eat "real" food and I am over two years out. If it doesn't have sauce/gravy/mayo/dressing on it, it's not going down. I have to eat small bites, chew thoroughly and eat slowly. I have a very tight restriction still (fortunately!) but I make good choices.

Choose high calorie, high protein, high fat stuff like good cheeses (cream cheese on a spoon!!), almond butters, crab salad, diced shrimp and avocado, etc. If you can fit it on a baby spoon, eat it. That's what I do on my "non-feeding" days.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
