Week 3 post op Stall! The scale is yo-yoing.

Recommended Posts

So I'm 3 weeks post op. I have only lost 37 lbs. I'm proud of that but my weight is going up then down, then back up again. I'm scared that I may be doing something wrong. If I sprung a leak, I would feel it. I'm only eating about 650 - 700 calories a day but the scale is not reflecting this. I'm not getting as much exercise as before because I'm back at work but a I'm a teacher so I'm walking about 12,000 steps a day. I'm trying to stay encouraged but reading everyone's success stories really makes me feel like I'm not doing something right.

What an accomplishment! Good job! You are doing everything right! Your body is just resetting. Just be sure to be consistent with your Protein and Water intake and you'll be fine.

You lost 37 in 3 weeks? That's over 12 pounds a week. Not sure why you are discouraged. I'm 5 months out and haven't lost much more than that.

My weight does go up and down. I lost 3 pounds almost a month ago and since then have been going up and down those same 3 pounds. I'm confident that eventually the stall will break and I'll start losing again. I think it's pretty normal.

Congratulations! You have reached The Dreaded Week-3 Stall. It's perfectly normal, and just about all of us have suffered through it. You're not crazy, and your doctor didn't screw up. In fact, you might not lose any weight for two weeks or even longer. But don't worry – after that, the pounds will start falling off if you stick to your program. And, the inches will continue to come off even while the scale isn't budging. Here's a good article that explains why it happens and why we all have to go through it. Hang in there. Pretty soon it'll be in the rear-view mirror and you'll be dropping weight again!

(Apologies to BP regulars who have seen this repeatedly, but it's a big deal to those who are going through it!)

Thanks guys, I heard about the stall but I was confident that I wouldn't experience it. I was on a roll, then the scale started playing with me. Lol! At least, I'm not crazy. I'm not alone. I have to keep forging ahead because this too shall pass.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
