Stalling at 3 weeks Am i alone?

Recommended Posts

I had VSG on May 16, 2015. I am 5 days post-op and still weigh more than I did going into surgery. So frustrating. By the time I am on week 2 post-op, I'll be lucky if I am at my pre-surgery weight. Then it sounds like I'll get one week of losing before the 3rd week stall! UGH!!!! I know we need to be patient. I get it. But we are allowed to be annoyed!

You just has major surgery. I remember it took me a good 5 weeks to start feeling like myself. This will all be a distant memory soon. As far as the stall, it's the classic 3 week stall 99% of people go through. There are many, many threads on this forum about it if you want to read up why it happens.

It is frustrating isn't it?? But it won't last. You will lose weight, I promise. Just keep in mind that those of you who don't have a ton of weight to lose will find that the weight loss will be slower. Just the way it is. Work on meeting your Fluid and Protein goals these first several weeks. Staying hydrated and getting enough protien for healing is what's most important right now, not the number on the scale.< /p>

Thanks, logically I know I will lose, but it's still a bit demoralizing. I'll try not to worry about it but easier said than done. I'm still recovering and had a complication during surgery so in pain and not able to walk much or do anything really. Just reading and browsing the net. A bit boring. So of course I am obsessing! Thanks for the words of wisdom.

Oh my goodness, EVERYTHING you are feeling is so normal! Each day and week that goes by you are going to feel so much more human. And then you see the scale moving and it makes you feel even better :) Hang in there!

PS

You're purty ;)

Hi, I am 4 weeks post op and feeling a slow in my weight loss too but know I'll pick it back it again..I'm hoping so at least!

I can't believe though to hear you're in pain though 3 weeks after surgery. I am sorry to hear..I was in pain and very sick from anesthesia after surgery in the first few days. I was nauseous I couldn't keep anything down, not even my Tylenol 3 prescribed for pain. I had some family tell me after their surgeries it was essential to make yourself keep walking I around. Even if for a few minutes every few hours. Once I did that I was dramatically better and back to myself by the next week. 1 week post op.

I also put my pain patch on and put a heating pad on my tummy area and that really took the pain away too. Yeah I hear being not yourself for first month or so, but in pain? maybe you should talk to your nurses, doctor? Because in my opinion that may not be normal..

I am not loosing at all for 5 weeks ????????????

Stalls are a normal, natural, and necessary part of the process of losing weight.

Most people experience their first stall about three weeks after weight loss surgery.

Just focus on getting in all of your Protein and fluids, taking your Vitamins and supplements as directed, and exercise as you can.

Embrace the Stall!

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
