Not getting my fluids in...

Recommended Posts

Hi this is my first post. I had my sleeve done on May 12th. Struggling to get my fluids in. Water is great but I'm trying to drink water with Protein and after one ounce I feel so full and gassy I don't want anything for an hour. Anyone have any tricks? I don't want to become dehydrated.

same thing happened to me. I tried to get in the majority of my fluids before I started in on protein...usually not until mid to late afternoon. The other thing is to try Syntrax Nectar or other "light" Protein Drinks rather than the thicker shakes. They may go down easier. You do not want to get dehydrated, it really sucks.

I am drinking the smoothie King Gladiator. It has all the Protein we need and it goes down easily. I did not start Protein until week two. Are you allowed to have it this soon?

I have to have 100 G Protein a day so there was no way my first 2 weeks that I could wait to start my Protein until I had gotten my fluids. They went hand in hand.

My surgeon allowed premier Protein shakes and ProtiDiet Soups on my clear phase. He also recommended the ProtiDiet liquid Beverage concentrates (that is what I was given in the hospital).

My first three days (plus day of surgery) I was on Clear Liquids only, and that was fine because I was not hungry at all. I sipped on flavored water and apple juice, that's it. No Protein. My dr. and NUT actually didn't mention protein at all for those first few days - all they cared about was me keeping myself hydrated. After a few days the swelling went down and I was able to get more Water in. I started on protein drinks with the full liquid phase, and I've been having 2-3 per day, plus my water. Every once in a while I'll have some chicken broth, Greek yogurt or Jello to vary things.

Don't worry about the numbers. Just make sure your urine color is good and that will tell you if you're dehydrated (for the most part). The first one of the day will most likely be dark, but the others after you start drinking should be clear and light yellow. Staying hydrated is your #1 job right now so you don't have a re-admission to the hospital.

I also had trouble with liquids the first two weeks. I found flavored Water and sugar free Jello went down much easier. Now at four weeks I prefer just plain Water. I add a little extra water to my Protein shakes. Thinner consistency is better for me.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
