Artificial Sweeteners / Who uses what?

Recommended Posts

Pre-op I was probably using 30 artificial sweetener packets per day. I put that stuff on everything. Sweetener is approved in my plan, but I know that it doesn't me an extreme indulgence like that. I have cut it back to only six a day. I make 1/2 gallon of Decaf tea every day and use my sweeteners for that. I don't put it on all my other food anymore .. Boy oh boy what a vice it was.

But, I was wondering what others are doing for sweetener: honey, agave, Stevia, nothing? What is your take on sweeteners?

I use Stevia. I use one packet in my coffee, and that is pretty much the extent of what I use daily. Plus whatever sweetener they use in Syntrax Nectars... I know it isn't Aspartame.

I use stevia and occasionally sucralose (Splenda). I figure I eat clean most of the time and if that's my worst habit left I'm pretty darn good!

Do you think Stevia tastes like licorice, or is it just me?

I use Stevia, also. I prefer Splenda because Stevia does have a little bitterness to it, but I like the fact that it's natural.

It does have a slight taste to it, but I think I am used to it. I don't think it is licorice.... I hate licorice, lol.

Most artificial sweeteners upset my tiny tummy. I shoot for Protein bars and shakes that use stevia and/or erythritol. I'd choose ones with real sugar if they made any. When I bake I use raw sugar. I use Monk Fruit in my homemade Protein hot chocolate mix. Regular Torani and Davinci syrups to sweeten my plain Greek yogurt. Real maple Syrup on my pancakes. Honey in my tea.

artificial sweeteners do the same thing to your brain and body's insulin levels as real sugar and will still give you carb cravings. The only difference is the calories. Erythritol is the only one I know of that doesn't affect your insulin levels.

Monkfruit. I totally forgot about monkfruit. I used to get it at Aldi's and they quit carrying it recently. I will see if I can get some online. Thanks for mentioning it. You are my new best friend.

I've read a lot lately about a connection between artificial sweeteners and increased belly fat, so I'm trying to cut them out entirely...SO hard! But I've also read that the powders (the packets) actually have sugar in them as fillers, so overall it just seems like something to avoid. Coffee/tea is the hardest. But it was a big vice for me, too, and I feel like it was keeping my sweet-tooth alive and made me crave more sweets. Now that I've got it out of my system I find it's a lot easier, and things like broccoli actually taste sweet to me. (Um, not that broccoli could ever replace my beloved homemade sugar-free pumpkin spice latte! Let's not get crazy now ;) !)

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
