I start my 2 week pre-op diet tomorrow as required by my doc. I noticed on here several people not having to do a pre-op diet and wondered why it varies. For the record I will be following my instructions but was just curious

I think it varies between doctors and probably the general health of the patient. If a patient only has smaller amount to lose, it seems, they aren't given as strict of a diet (or none). Some only do the liquid diet the day before. I have a two week limited and a liquid one for tomorrow.

I know that with my surgeon, I thought there would be an extended pre-op diet, but he told me to keep at Protein shakes (3/day), and a small salad with fruit for my one meal. That said, I'm now at the day before surgery, and this is the only day I'm required to do Clear liquids.

@@Dischord - I wish I had that option. My surgery is the 6th so I hope you let us know how you did in surgery asap so I can see before I go the next day. Are you nervous?

I had to do 10 days with shakes only. I had a fatty liver which had to be shrunk.

Thanks for the replies. It just seems to be standard with my clinic. 2 weeks. Bigger or smaller. Have had last supper tonight and got my game face on for tomorrow

@jane13

I wish I was able to let you know how things go after surgery - I don't have a smart phone, no tablet, and I won't be out until sometime on the 6th or 7th, depending on how things go. I will be doing a proper post once I'm out of surgery and home and resting comfortably. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't very nervous, but I know this is necessary, and things are going to be so much easier once it's done. I only wish it was already 6 AM so I could be in and getting this all done and over with!

FOLLOW YOUR SURGEONS INSTRUCTIONS. I KNOW EVERYONE IS DIFFERENT. But we do need to have total confidence in our doctors. My doctor has only lost one patient and that is because she failed to follow his instructions. You won't regret the liquid diet it gives you a head start on the rest of your life because your diet will have to change for your lifetime.

Thanks for the advice. As I say, I fully intend to follow my instructions. I just wondered why they had different methods

      I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

      Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
      Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

      Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
