Even at 5 months post op I still battle the grazing and sweets demons. It's all in the willpower. And if you're like me that says willpower can be bs sometimes, try this little trick. When I'm hanging out at home (most dangerous time for giving in to cravings), if I start thinking about sweets or justifying some little snack in my head that I shouldn't have, I start drinking Water. Drink and drink and drink because remember, you can't eat or drink within 30 minutes of each other. So if I drink Water, I've just eliminated the possibility of snacking in the next 30 minutes and hopefully when that 30 minutes is up, I've defeated the craving or found something to do to take my mind off it. It doesn't always work, I still give in sometimes. But this, along with planning my food log in the morning with myfitnesspal, keeps me on track for the most part.

I agree with the other posters. If you don't keep the temping "treats" in the house then you should stay on track 95% of the time.

I am 10 months out and I still pack my purse every morning before I leave the house. I carry flavored Water everywhere all day long. I keep almonds cheese sticks Protein bars and a variety of fruit or veggie bites with me. Again I know that's not where you are yet, but it is a learned and developed discipline.

Because I do not keep the other in the house I just don't snack on them at random and or often. It is a conscious choice I make every time I shop at the grocery.

You are doing great. You have made a lifelong commitment to change yourself and there is not a customized manual made just for you. You have to write it as you go along and as you learn.

I still have emotional days. We all do. And finally I'll say each day is a new one and we can start again to reach a small personal win ...

I'm almost 3 weeks out and I fantasize about eating a piece of chocolate. I can't because there's none here, but I still fantasize and make half-hearted plans. Last night I dreamed I was eating some kind of bacon triple cheeseburger. I love a good burger but would never have eaten something like that before my sleeve, so I have no idea where that dream came from. I was only able to finish a little in my dream, so I'm glad that my sleeve worked even in my subconscious. ;)

This isn't an easy journey. It is so frustrating at times. I actually had the exact opisite being that I didn't want to eat. My hubby had a BBQ the weekend after my surgery! URGH!!! Meaner!!! lol.

Your body is still healing from the surgery. Please don't get dicouraged for not loosing the weight. As long as you are following your protocol you should be fine. Call them and tell them your concerns though. they may have you step back a bit.

I agree with the above comments about the Protein. Protein will keep you full longer. I love the nectar and Inspire protein. They have one called PURE that is truly unflavored and will not thicken when added to items. I put it in my coffee in the morning.

I went throu a "hunger" phase as well at one point in my journey. It was head hunger. I was really just dehydrated. So a trick that they told me was to sip Water and wait 15 mins. if that doesn't help add protein like nectar to the Water (it counts as water intake) and see if that helps. If after an hour I am still hungry, nibble on a soft food like protein enriched sf Jello (if you can't handle soups)

Hang in there! ;)

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
