Hey all, I just hit my day 7 from surgery and I am feeling a bunch better. I had pastina last night (if your Italian you probably know more about what it is) and it went down well. Today I had Organic Garlic Hummus from Whole Foods and it was awesome too. I am just wondering, after reading a few posts and since I am on the creamy soup/oatmeal/cream of what stuff am I doing this right?

I feel weird because other people are on liquids still. I know you guys will say "as long as your NUT says it's ok" but I still have some pain and I am definitely feeling full.

Am I doing well here? I'm not hurting myself right? Lol. Here is the hummus I had so you can see consistency:

I would skip the pastina unless you were specifically told you could have it. I know its teeny tiny but it IS still Pasta.

At 7 days I was allowed hummus and purees, applesauce, yogurt, cream Soups, scrambled egg, mashed up tuna or other soft fish, cottage cheese, etc.

No bread or Pasta until at least 8 weeks out according to my protocol. No rice for even longer. I doubt I will eat much pasta, bread or rice EVER, but I have had a cracker or pretzel stick now at 5 weeks out, and I may have a little high Protein wheat toast on occasion when I am 8 weeks out.

Congrats & best of luck to you!

Congrats on a great recovery!

We can't tell you if you're hurting yourself. If you're not following the plan prescribed by your healthcare professionals then, yes, you might hurt yourself.

At one week out I was just starting on purees and that was chicken with a light sauce in a blender. I also did quite a bit of broth Soups with soft Protein like tofu and egg whites.

Best of luck!

Everyone's plan seems to be different, so follow your team's advice. If you're experiencing pain, and you're concerned, call your surgical team for answers. Maybe pull back on the heavier foods, going back to liquids for awhile, until you are more comfortable-feeling. That staple line is very, shall I say, "unhappy" right now, so comfort it a little with liquids. There's a lot of healing going on, and even a little bit of solid food stuck in one of those "wrinkles" can cause you an awful lot of grief. So many seem in such a hurry to get back to normal food textures, but the body needs to do it on it's own terms. If you want crunch/texture, try sugar-free popsicles. All the best to you...

I was on liquids for 2 weeks, pureed for 2 weeks and soft foods after that. I was cleared today to eat whatever I feel comfortable eating. I am still taking things slowly. I don't "test" my new stomach by trying to eat more than what is recommended for me at this time. I eat about 1/2 cup of food at each meal and have a snack of cheese, cottage cheese or soft fruit for in between meal Snacks. Only 2 Snacks per day though. I am on target with my Water and my Protein which is the most important thing.

Take your time with food. It will be there later when your stomach is fully healed. You don't want any leaks or infections. Be very careful with yourself.

Are you on soft foods/purees? If so, hummus is fine. Hummus is actually on my soft food list.

I am 8 days post op and started "pre-selected" soft foods. I will be doing this for two weeks (1 ounce every other hour). Foods include:

cottage cheese

low carb yogurt

sugar free pudding (with added Protein powder)

egg beaters

I supplement with Protein shakes.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
