Oh wow!!! That so good to hear she's doing better!!! Let her know she's not alone, Protein is really hard for me too... I can tolerate some called Premier Protein it has 30g of protein and 1g carbs....i can drink one in about 3 hours... I can't tolerate even that much at a time. You can buy it at some Walmart's and at costco and Sam's... It's thin and when sipped is the best testing one. And also, when I can't get much protein in I just try again the next day! But CONGRATULATIONS for 50lbs loss!!! WOW!

Slow and steady is just fine. If she cannot tolerate any of the Protein supplements, she will just have to get more creative with eating high Protein foods. My favorite id FAGE 0% greek yogurt. I mix it with fruit or even use it instead of sour cream. Another thing I have found I can tolerate are the Isopure Protein Drinks. However I can only tolerate the teas and the coconut flavors. Each bottle is 40 grams of protein. I actually divide it up and do 1/3 Isopure to 2/3 Water. It's especially refreshing during these hot summer days.

Glad she is doing well! Thanks for checking in.

So sorry guys! I haven't gotten any emails that there were posts on here. I wonder why? I apologize for not checking back in sooner! My daughter is not doing much better. The nausea is totally gone and she's able to eat and drink just fine. She's lost a total of 50 lbs since surgery. I think she was hoping for more by now but I think her body's metabolism is recovering. During her 3 weeks in the hospital on IV fluids only, she didn't lose any weight at all. Then as she was on TPN at home (nutrients through a PICC line to her heart, similar to an IV) she slowly started losing again. She was on TPN for about 10 days then on solid foods gradually.

She's pretty much tolerating everything now except Protein. She's had a stall in weight loss the past couple of weeks though. She can't stomach any of the shakes, powders etc. we've tried.

Thanks again to all of you who've helped me through this and for all of you who are still commenting.

. It's interesting that you're not getting any emails because when I logon on my computer I was getting an error message saying that my email address was not valid and emails were getting returned but my nothing has changed and I get other emails which doesn't make sense. So happy that your daughters doing better keep us posted

@@BLERDgirl thanks for the suggestions. She is getting pretty creative with the Protein and we're using greek yogurt too. Now I like it even better than sour cream. We tried Isopure in mango or something like that, it was horrible. Maybe we should check out other flavors. She did come out of her stall a bit and lost 5 more lbs since last week so I guess it's getting better.

@@LSF, thank you!

I'm glad to hear that your daughter is doing better.

Before I got back to the U.S. I had to get a little creative myself. Fage plain was the only Greek yogurt available. I mixed it with a little stevia, vanilla, and different extracts. I loved it with almond extract. That was my favorite.

Well I'm sad to report this is the 5 month mark and she continues to have days where nausea takes over. She's had some days nausea free but the vast majority is spent homebound with nausea. She's thankfully able to stay hydrated so no more trips to the hospital and no recent kidney stones. The nausea gets so bad at times that she starts to have a vasovagal response and starts losing consciousness. I don't think the nausea is related to the sleeve but contrary to what the GI doctor said, it does seem to have made it worse. Nausea was present before the sleeve to a lesser degree. The GI said having the sleeve would probably actually reduce the nausea. He was wrong.

She's lost 85 lbs to date with another equal amount to go. It's hard to enjoy the weight loss though when she can barely leave the house. Hopefully she'll start having better days.

Yes, she had her gallbladder removed a year before the surgery.

How is your daughter doing? I guess surgery affects ppl differently. After gastric bypass less then a week I was food shopping. Don't give up & get to the bottom of the situation. I'm 3 years out,and I'm anemic, but I'm going to get to the bottom of this. Refusing to be anemic all my life. I take IV Iron weekly. Good luck to your daughter.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
