Still struggling with gas but not as bad as the first two days. Trying to walk as much possible. No BM yet hopefully soon though I'm kinda scared. Over all I think I'm doing pretty good. Getting my fluids in. A little short on Protein but my doc said it's okay if I don't get all of it in the first week. How's everyone else doing first week post op ?

not too bad, I have had that first BM. Fluids are good and working on Protein as I am allowed. Seems to still be a lot of pain but I had three procedures done at the same time, RNY, gall bladder removal and scar tissue on colon fixed from csection. So I think the getting up and down and pain is my challenge for today. It does seem to be different every day that is for sure. I have high hopes for tomorrow everyday :) Cause it will always be one step better usually :)

Day three post op as well. The gas is still giving discomfort. However, I can feel it moving around in there now., so I am hoping it will start to exit. I had a little poop accident earlier today when I though I needed to fart, so I know things are working. Each day gets a bit better. Just have this gas ball in the middle of my back that needs to be relieved. liquids going well, so far no nausea. I am walking a lot and that helps too.

Keep walking and that gas will work its way out. I had a massage about a week ago 4 or 5 weeks PO and asked her to work on my shoulder blades. It really helped finish it off. I just made sure she took it easy around my middle area so i didnt get any sore areas. It was fab!

Ok lol I had mine Monday and am going to have to investigate, I don't think I have a belly button incision LOL. I have equal pain on left and right rib areas from each of the two large surgeries, RNY and gall bladder removal. I know I had a third for repair of adhesions and scar tissue from c section in bowel also, but have not been able to check all of them good as we have no mirrors low enough. So hand mirror and flashlight will be in order later tonight lol I shall check this out :) Great for you on your day two

I had a hernia repaired maybe that's why I had belly button incision.

Day 3 post op for me today. Man those first 48 hours after were no joke. I had severe, non-exiting gas pains. I walked the halls hourly and it was slow going! Better today but still having some discomfort. I'm a lap band to bypass revision with a hernia repair. My middle section is tender but I'd take it over those gas pains anyday...yikes. Fluids and Protein are flowing down slow and easy, happy to not have any nausea.

Good luck all!

I am in he*l. I thought I was so prepared for surgery (3/26) but this abdominal pain is killing me. I'm passing gas just fine. It's just moving around or switching sides. Been up walking every hour. Hard to get fluids in when I'm laying down and can't use straw. Right this minute I have buyer's remorse. I hope to seethe bright side SOON!

@@@deetz71 The first few days are hard. But you will get through them, and come out for the better. Give yourself time to heal. It was a major surgery. Keep following your doctors orders. And remember we are all with you. You are not alone. There are so very many of us that have been where you are at. Big hugs hun.

The gas pains are incredible and awful. There are no real ways around them and, for me, no pain killer touched them. I refused the morphine after the first night because there was just no point. I walked hourly and it didn't really help. I'm at the end of 4 days out and still have some gas pains in my upper shoulders but it is a blessing compared to those first 24-36 hours. Hang in there guys, it'll be worth it for all of us! I know when I get a little down, I Google before and after pics or come to these forums sites and look at everyone's pictures. It's very motivating to know I'm gonna be there!

@, I'm sorry you're in so much pain. :( Mine was pretty bad too. I'm always amazed by people here who claim they had no pain, took no painkillers, etc. That was not my experience at all. I took my liquid oxy pretty continuously for the first week, and only started cutting back on it when I started to get nervous about how much I was taking. (Drugs kind of scare me.) The pain didn't start to fade until week 2. I wish I'd had a recliner or something else to lie on, because getting in and out of bed was tough. As was drinking while in bed, as you've also noted. I also had some challenges with my incisions - one in particular opened up and did NOT want to heal. There was nothing to be done for it but time, and it was no fun at all. I prefer to sleep on my side or stomach, so that was also hard. It was at least a month before I could shift effortlessly in bed without having to be mindful of incisions, pain spots, etc.

Having said all that... I still feel like I had a pretty easy time overall, and I would do it again in a heartbeat. I never had any complications that required treatment, never vomited, never dumped, etc. Once the pain starts to fade and the fat starts to melt away, you'll never look back again. You can do this!

You will! I remember after my surgery I was in such TERRIBLE pain for about 5 days and then before I knew it , the pain started to ease up greatly. I never thought it would but it did . Hang in there! It will get better !

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
