Cardio on Vacation

Recommended Posts

I am leaving for vacation on Friday after work. We'll be driving down to Gatlinburg, TN where we'll be staying in a cabin with my parents, my sister's family, and my sister's best friend's family. There will be 17 of us in all, but 7 of them are children under 10.

Anyway, the cabin we are going to is up in the mountains where the roads are very twisty and narrow and I don't think I'd feel safe jogging on them. We WILL be doing a lot of shopping and trips to the amusement park where we'll do a lot of walking, so I think I will get lots of walking in throughout my days, but no intense cardio.

My current cardio routine is working on couch to 5k every other day and alternating between rest days and stationary bike the other days. So my schedule is basically: run, bike, run, rest, repeat.

Friday would be one of my running days, but we will be straight into the car after work to drive about halfway down there, staying in a hotel Friday night that has a fitness room, but we won't get there until around midnight.

Once we're to the cabin on Saturday, I won't have any access to fitness facilities. I tried finding a local gym that had daily passes, but zero luck there.

So it's looking like no intense cardio for me after tomorrow night until we get back home on Sunday, the 5th. I plan to bring my free weights so I can at least keep up with my strength training. Does anyone have any ideas for some cardio workouts I could do in my bedroom in the cabin? I will have internet and my laptop, so I was thinking about some videos off youtube or something, but so many of those involve plyometrics (jumping), which I can't do because of my knees. Would love suggestions!

My immediate response was going to be jumping jacks but then i caught the last line of your post so......

I subscribed to fitstar. There are a few great workout apps out there. They have free workouts too so you don't have to start a subscription just for this weekend. Anyways, there are some great routines in there and you can set it to avoid jumping or anything else you don't want. I think you can definitely find something that will do for the weekend.

BTW - Kudos to you! If I were going away for the weekend, I don't know that I would have the dedication to go to this much trouble just to avoid missing my cardio a few days. Proud of you!

You have Leslie Sansone on youtube. Also Jessica Smith has some awesome cardio videos too. I have knee problems as well so I am always looking for videos that are easy on the knees.

It's actually the full week... this Friday, the 27th through Saturday, the 4th. So I couldn't NOT workout for over a week!

My Opinion??? You worked hard at getting in shape and staying fit...for what? To enjoy times just like this.

So yes, enjoy your vacation....

I have gone through the same, and because I was in good shape, I enjoyed my self and all the activities more than I could have done before....I worked for it, I deserve it....

We are planning our vacation for next summer...and I have already booked an excursion to "climb", not hike, but climb a dormant volcano through a tropic rain forest till you hit the plateau.....all the literature and talk on the message boards say do not even consider it if you think in the slightest you're not up to it, and not in top shape.

It is because I go to the gym, run 5 miles, and of course lost all this weight that I can go on vacations and do things like this...not worry where the nearest gym facility is.....

So go enjoy yourself and the fitness you worked for....the gym will be there when you get back.

You will be in the mountains. Why not take advantage of what is available. I am sure there are some great hiking trails in and around Gatlinburg. There are probably some trails around your cabin. Why not go outside and explore? Take some kids with you. I grew up playing in the woods and, believe me, walking uphill is excellent cardio.

I am sure I will be doing lots of walking and some hiking. I won't be able to do so in the immediate vicinity of the cabin, though. The roads up there are very narrow and winding and I would definitely fear being hit by a car trying to walk on them. I will definitely be getting in lots of steps, I'm not worried about being inactive. I'm just worried about not doing any high-intensity cardio.

If you walk on a trail you won't be on a road.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
