I think I'm beginning to hate food !

Recommended Posts

The one thing I always got excited about seems to becoming an after thought and I'm not sure this is healthy. I feel like I force myself to eat. I do eat, don't get me wrong, but the enjoyment is gone. I don't get excited when I advance in phases and am able to eat more things as I though I would. I barely eat the required amount that my Dr. set between 500 and 800 calories per day. Im around the the lower end of that spectrum. I think I feel this way because food is what made me fat and I'm feeling resentment towards it. I know this sounds crazy as hell..... Is anyone else experiencing the same thing?

I think it's common to go through a period of adjustment after WLS. The feelings you are currently experiencing are probably temporary. As the weeks go by, you will feel more and more normal and your outlook on food will evolve.

It's good that you question yourself, though. You don't want to replace one form of disordered eating with another.

@@Donmecca357 I totally agree with you. Since having surgery I now eat to live, rather than live to eat. For me it's not really that I don't get excited about food, I'm really just not interested in it.

After surgery I was somewhat afraid to like food again. I was actually hoping that I'd be one of those sleeved people whose favorite foods made them sick just so I wouldn't have a desire for most foods. Buuuut, everything goes down just fine. But it worked out well.

My all-things-tolerated sleeve turned out to be very positive because I was delighted to find that I very much still enjoy food and look forward to eating. I enjoy the taste and satisfaction out of a small amount of food much more than the large amounts I ate before surgery.

I've never had a great relationship food, but I think we're reconciling our differences a bit. :)

I am 18 months out and I pretty much hate food, so I know what you mean. There are times I miss my old friend when I really want to sit down and enjoy a dinner or watch tv, but then I look at myself in the mirror and I know that the old phrase "nothing tastes as good as being thin feels" is true. It seems most people who are naturally thin don't actually love food as much as I do. They eat it when they need it, they enjoy it in the moment, and then they move on. Ideally I think we are supposed to get to this point, lol, although I do periodically mourn food.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
