I'm a little over 5 months post op and this week I gained 2 lbs. I've never gained. I've stalled but never gained. I'm really worried. I haven't done anything differently. I watch what I eat and am very strict. I've never cheated and don't eat anything I'm not supposed to. I'm working out about 4 days a week. What gives???

I totally feel you...I did not gain but the scale just moved to 1lb...i guess i am happy for any loss....but it beats my confidence down. I go to the gym 7 days a week and i do cardio and weights yes muscles weigh more but yet the scale is dormant...Hang in there it can only get better!!!

If you don't already, take measurements. They will be changing even when the scale doesn't.

Hang in there! This happens to me frequently. I will lose steadily and then gain a pound or two. With apologies to Star Wars, I've decided to rename my body: "The Fat Cells Strike Back!"

Between Fluid shifts, hormones, fat cells, genetics, and everything else, I am just grateful that the scales do go down.

I am so happy to find this convo and I'm right there with you, unfortunately:( I was sleeved on 1/9 and total, including pre surgery, have lost about 20 lbs!!! Now, I had the band out in September (went in for port revision, woke up to hear it was out due to infection) gained 50 lbs had sleeve and have had practically ZERO restriction, ZERO when I eat!!! I have no lost, in fact I too gained about 1 pound, in the last 3 weeks. I have a copy of my operative report and not once does it give the size of the stomach that was removed. All it says is that the specimen was passed off! My leak test showed a round pouch, not a banana size so I have always questioned what was done. Other things on the report have used the work gastric reconstruction & 40 boule. I really wonder what was done, even though I have asked about 5 times, I get the same answer. I am walking, doing my shakes and limiting my hourly intake as per my doctor, to about 3 ounces. I could just keep eating and eating if I don't walk away...that is the little restriction I feel. Had a slice of pizza, not one issue. I work with people that will tell me the pain they get if they overeat is so obvious...really? I'm so discouraged and truly wonder if my stomach is bigger because I didn't have a lot to loose?? Thoughts? Anyone? I need to know I'm not the only one!

As long as you're doing the right things, it's probably a fluke - sometimes it just happens. Last week I logged a 3 pound gain in ONE day, then it went away plus another pound a couple of days later. Chalking it up to too much salt / not enough Water and plugging right along.

I'd check again in a couple of days and see if those pounds are still there!

I am 4 months out and for the first time I gained as well. 1.5 lbs but I know I am losing inches as my boobs are smaller. I don't need to measure I can tell :) I started doing Insanity Max last week and who know's with hormones and such what's going on but I am going to give it a few days before I reweigh because I tend to get in a bad mood when I don't lose.

Have a great week-

Two steps forward, one step back (or is it the reverse?).For me I think it's the reverse. I have been doing this two-step for at least a month, but AM slowly reducing. It definitely shows in the sizes I wear, and it seems no matter how much I change the size of my pants, they STILL are too big! No complaints there, but I look so funny , losing the weight on the BOTTOM and not the top - my back and upper arms are still close to what they originally were, size-wise, it's like that "monkey on my back" that refuses to let go! LET GO!

I read an article that if you are eating really healthy, low or no carbs, to take 1 day to eat some fattening stuff, Pasta, dessert etc and go back on track the next day. They say it " jump starts" your system

Thanks for all the comments. My personal trainer thinks it's muscle gain. I'm not so sure. I'm going to wait a few days then weigh myself again. I definitely have not gotten my Water in the past 3 days. Maybe that's it?

Wow! Thank you for this fantastic information! I know I am not alone and I know it has only been 2 months. My doctor keeps saying do not loose faith and don't get discouraged but I think it's only human to know in your heart that your being compliant and not budging on the damm scale! I do remember the band taking its time and it took me years to find the "sweet spot". I have my operative reports but tomorrow I am going to request the actual X-ray so I can show another doctor. I'm just hoping I don't have to go through this again!! The fact that I didn't have a lot to loose and before being wheeled in for the actual surgery I looked at my surgeon and said "a banana size stomach?" He said "yes and if you decide in the future you would like a band, we can do that" I was half in the bag and remember saying "no band, that's why I'm here now" that has always been in the back of my mind and after seeing my X-ray during the leak test I saw it was round....looked like a bag of coins with a tie around the top!! And on top of that, I have had hardly any restriction, no pain and the weight loss is around 20 lbs! I'm just disappointed and am going to another surgeon to see what he has to say.

LOL Keep the faith. I've lost another two pounds since i posted that chart. You gain some, you lose a lot. I freak out sometimes because I feel like I'm eating more than I should be able to. I ask my husband if he thinks I'm eating too much and every time he asks me, "what have you eaten today?" So I list it all off for him and he just laughs because he eats that much in one meal. His job is very active so he stays fit even eating that much. Makes me feel better though and helps me realize that it seems like a lot to me, but to everyone else it's barely anything.

Often times our body adjusts to the same routine. I've hit plateau twice since I had my surgery in 10/2013. I had a major gain of 10lbs over the holidays and I went to the dr February 25th 169lbs.. my low was 159... he put me back on a strict 600/900 calories a day with diary. Since I've been logging my intake I'm more vigilant. I weighed today and I'm 157.4 that's just over 2 weeks. I'm back in the game!

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣
