Surg Date Scheduled! Need Input!

Recommended Posts

So, my surgery date is rapidly approaching, 30 March! Yikes. Nerves are setting in and I am trying to prepare. I would appreciate any input I can get about the top things you needed in preparation FOR your surgery and the top items needed AFTER surgery. What are your fav Protein Drinks? Bars? Would a Nutri Bullet come in handy? Just any input any of you could give would be so appreciated. I'm so crazy nervous! Thank you!!!

Gas X...Gas X...Gas X... did I mention Gas X?

Also, don't buy as much broth as you think you need.. I did not crack it open once. ProtiDiet Hot Cocoa is your friend. Make sure to have some insulated mugs, as everything gets cold and gross by the time you get to the end of it. Hot tea is also a good liquid source.

The first few days suck, but by the end of the first week, you're feeling really good.

Premier Protein drinks are good - 30 grams each. Prepare sugar free Jello in advance also. Plain Tomato Soup tastes great after all the Protein Drinks. For mushies, I had a small scoop of mashed potatoes with a couple of spoonfuls of chili w/beans on top and shredded cheese. I would microwave it and stir it up. It was delicious.

I actually didn't think GasX was necessary. I think it depends on your surgeon and how much time he takes on trying to get out the excess gas prior to closing up. I never had any pain from gas and never used the gasx strips I bought. The only discomfort I felt was like a really intense ab workout I also only had one incision but I don't think that should have any impact on gas pain.

First of all, don't buy too many Protein supplements before hand. Try all you can and get enough to last a week, maybe two. I found I preferred the "thinner" non-milky products post op as they just went down easier. nectar makes a variety of flavors that mix with Water, plus they sell "sampler packs" so you can try multiple flavors before you commit to a 2lb jar). I think I lived on their Lemon Tea for a month! Nutribullet? YES! I lived out of mine for the first 6 weeks! Now I use it to make amazing sauces, lol. broth... not a fan, but if its fresh, its better. Made some fresh and froze it in ice cube trays for storage. Great to cook with later if you find you're not a broth person.

Today, I favor a scoop of vanilla whey in my coffee every morning for a "latte", (this is not something you want to try and reheat btw), and a PowerCrunch or Quest bar in the afternoon for a snack.< /p>

Gas-Ex, chapstick and a pillow for the ride home for the hospital to put between your belly and the seat belt all good things.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
