1 day post-op and the gas PAIN...

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

I had surgery performed on May 29. I feel... okay, but my stomache is bloated, and the gas pain is unbearable at times. Does anyone have any advice for me? When does the bloating and gas pain go away? I look like someone who is 7 months pregnant :phanvan Help!!!

Is there anyting that I can drink or eat for the gas? BTW... I am not hungry at all.

Hi! I was banded yesterday, too! ;)

The gas hit me this afternoon... ugh... I took a gas-x strip awhile ago and am waiting for it to kick in... 'til then... as Shrek says, "better out than in!"

I'm also sore today, mostly on my right side... it hurts to move, bend, twist... walk! But I am. sleeping hasn't been so hot, either... <shrug>... it's all part of the process!

I'm not "hungry" either, but don't want to dehydrate, so always have an 8-oz cup of something nearby to sip, sip, sip. It takes me up to 2 hrs to drink a Protein shake! Amazing! That's the only thing I'm trying to get in is the 70 g pro/day... + Water... that's it for now.

Good luck!

Thanks Mdari! I am so sore, and I can't seem to eat anything.. I know I have to eat but the gas pain makes eating uncomfortable. The only food that I can "tolerate" is sugar free jello... Any suggestions? by the way-- what kind of Protein Shake are you drinking?

PASS GAS!

Get on all fours and stick your bum in the air! Really move on the floor. I'm telling you, it really helped me let it rip! Also, chew sugarless gum -- gets digestive juices going and helps pregnant women pass gas!

It all helps...

Peppermint tea, gas-x & heat pacs.... stick that bum in the air & walk.

I still have shoulder / gas pain after more than 2 weeks, and it's worse first thing in the morning, but finally am able to sleep thru the night.

Have lost 14 kg's so far... so it's all been worth it.

Keep your chin up & know we are all on your side !!

I agree with all that was said above. I posted the same thing that you did on about day 3 post op. Mine hit me in the shoulder and it was HORRIBLE! As painful as it might seem to move around....you gotta move. I really didnt have much pain from surgery ....it was all gas pain. I do however caution chewing gum. My Dr said no gum because if you accidently swallow it (which I did the other night) that it could block the stoma. I dont have restriction yet and had no problems with a blockage after swallowing it but it scared me enough to where I wont chew gum again.

Good luck

Susan

Thank you so much to all of you. Everything that was posted is exactly how I'm feeling. The shoulder pain, not able to stand up straight- all symptoms that I have. Mickey I tried the heat pads and it helped!! Woohoo! I was letting it out (sorry for being so informative). I will also try the perpermint tea the the walking on all four.. interesting! ;) Thanks everyone!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
