Oh! I was reading on what to take to the hospital the other day & a lot of people say a pillow to hold on the ride home.

Hi there! Congratulations on your upcoming surgery. For me so far, I have felt like I won the lottery!

The best advice I received was to walk walk walk & sip fluids all day long. I had a very easy recovery and was off all meds 4 days post op. The most uncomfortable part of surgery is the gas they put in your stomach. The only real way to get rid of it is to walk a lot. I was literally up and walking as soon as I got back to my room. Also that gas made it really hard to lay in bed so I found myself sitting in the chair in my room when I wasn't walking.

I also brought a pillow for the ride home.

Good luck tomorrow and I wish you a very speedy recovery!

Agree w/above advice and also agree about the pillow. I'm not sure that I needed it, but I felt better with it between my stomach and the seat belt for sure. Sip, sip, sip Water, and what I found was to eat the ice chips they offered -- gave some 'crunch' and was also counted as water -- be prepared for a bit of bruising, at least I am, mostly from the heparin (blood thinner) shots they gave me every 8 hours in the hospital to guard against blood clots. Take pain med as needed, don't try to be a hero, but if don't need, ease off - you're the only one that will know -- At my hospital, we were required to be in the recliner in the room from 6 am to 10 pm; no bed till 10 pm. (day after surg) - again, to guard against blood clots and to encourage walking - it's easier to get up from a recliner than the bed. Of course, I dozed a bunch in the chair and that was fine. I took a spare set of clothes--didn't need. Just take some toiletries and clean undies, plus electronics and chargers, ie phone, tablet, whatever...best of luck! I'm 5 days post-op and, while tired, otherwise doing well --

I wore hospital gowns the whole time, so only brought a few pairs of undies, a travel body wash and Shampoo, toothbrush/paste, comb, Chapstick, phone & charger & extension cord, laptop, hand lotion and fuzzy socks and slippers for walks. I used it all except the laptop - the pain meds made me too loopy to care - I just let the little TV on :)

I wish I brought some oil for inside my nostrils (like a dab of olive oil or Vitamin e or coconut oil) it was dreadfully dry in there. And maybe my neti pot to flush out my nose.

BEWARE - nobody warned me, but the oxygen mask dries you out a LOT. (Tmi/gross) I had the nastiest phlegm, mucus and crusted boogers in my nose and throat. Don't be scared - ask your nurse if you cough/hawk anything gross up. I was beyond mortified what came up when I coughed. I wish I had known ahead of time!

My one piece of advice - the day after surgery take a hot shower. Even if you don't bring any soaps or shampoos, use the hospital's or just take a shower to get wet - you will feel like a new person!!

Good luck!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
