February/March 2015 Self Payers in Mexico

Recommended Posts

Good evening fellow travelers. Since I haven't seen a group posting for February/March 2015 I thought I'd start one. I am interested in who you chose and where you're having your surgery. I have not set a date yet, but I will be talking with Katy Floyd (from A Lighter Me) on Monday to discuss setting a date and answering some of my questions. I am 49 years old (going to be a healthier 50's and beyond) man. I am a nurse, working in an ICU, and have been working nights for the majority of the past 27 years. I have decided on Dr Elias Ortiz, with A Lighter Me, in Tijuana, Mexico. I hope to share more of my story in the future.

My sister had her surgery done here in Texas last July and has already passed her goal weight. My insurance does not cover bariatric surgery, yes I work for a hospital and my insurance is sub par. I've been researching my options and self pay here in the States is just too expensive. I hope to hear more on your progress with setting up your surgery. For me, it almost feels surreal. I saw the loop that my sister had to jump through and it seems just so much nicer. In planning for the late winter months, I am hoping to avoid the spring break crowd and allow me time to spend my spring and summer as much as possible outside to gain the momentum of recovering and weight loss.

I am actually here in Mexico now, and I am scheduled for surgery today with Dr. Elias Ortiz. Super excited but of course nervous. I choose a lighter me and Dr. Ortiz after months of research and talking to patients on different sites. He has a great reputation as does the whole program at a lighter me. Good luck with your research and if you would like any questions answered from experience... After tomorrow I will be able to assist!

I went through ALM and was sleeved on 12JAN. I had a wonderful, supportive experience. I have received excellent "after care" with Rhonda's emails and supportive phone calls. Everyone that was in our "sleeve" group expressed similar statements of satisfaction with ALM staff from pre-op to post-op. It was the best decision I've made in a long while. The Dr. is excellent and really qualified. He answered all of my questions and my procedure went well/smooth.

I'd be happy to answer any questions about my experience, feel free to contact me. You won't be disappointed with the service you will receive with ALM. I only have great things to say about them and the experience.

I'm scheduled with Dr. Ortiz on 03/02. I'm working with Katy at A Lighter Me after months of tedious research on getting the procedure done. It's actually going to double as a honeymoon for me, because we are planning on eloping the weekend we head down there! I'm so nervous already but I'm also MORE than ready to make this change in my life.

Right on Lindsey!!!

How amazing for you. It will be wonderful for you to start your marriage on a positive path of self discovery and change. I have been married to my handsome hubby for 24 years. He has seen to me at every weight... and put up with the suffering and complaining and God bless him he's stuck with me. I can't go to bed until I finish my water...LOL

My date is March 23rd at OCC in Tijuana. On Atkins till March 1, then on to the liquid diet. I have 7 weeks of preparation both mental as well as physical. I want so much for this to work. Just in the last 2 years have I really noticed my weight affecting my health. So for me this is no longer about vanity as much as it is comfort and health. Always before it was strictly about looking better. Maybe this time I'll have the magic formula and better motivation.

Hi All,

My surgery date is March 4th in Tijuana, Mexico with Dr. Lopez with Specialized Bariatrics. I too have done a great deal of research. Reading about others' experience, watching videos, and attending the seminars offered at the hospitals here in the states has been a huge help.

I started my pre-op today. Although I'm only required to do it for 14 days, I decided to get started early to make sure my body is ready for the procedure. I look forward to hearing from all of you as you prepare for the next step in this "change-for-the-better" journey.

I am having VSG done by Dr. Lopez this Wednesday morning. YIKES! I am going to the Vida hospital. I promise to give you a play by play as soon as I can type. These forums/friends have been a life saver for me and I am ready to be on the other side and help my fellow VSG'ers thru the process.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
