I am early in this pre-op regimen. I met with the surgeon and was accepted as a patient, the same day met with the scheduler to go over all my insurance requirements as well as schedule all necessary appointments. A week later I attended a dual seminar with a dietician as well as the exercise physiologist. Next up is my first support group meeting.

Now down to my concern. At the dietician's seminar we went through proper nutrition basics and she said for now leave with three basic tasks to remember to do now (I'm guessing there will be more details in the future appointments), and they were to start a food journal, include Protein in every meal, and to ensure we have at least three meals a day.

She recommended My Fitness Pal, so I've been using that as my journal. I put in everything to a tee, the bar code scanner helps greatly, and I am trying to eat smart. I average 1300-1600 calories a day while following the Protein directions as well as limiting carbs. I lost 12 pounds in nine days following this. Without the surgery yet and not taking any supplements, does this sound about right? I don't have another dietician appointment for a few weeks and I probably could make a call to the office but I'm always the patient who doesn't want to inconvenience anyone.

Thanks in advance to any insight any forum member may have.

I'm on the "Liver Shrinking Diet" and am 8 lbs down in 10 days so if you're on something similar, then yeah that sounds about right. A lot of patients lose a good chunk of weight pre-op.

My diet is 3 meals with Protein (any amount) and up to 2 cups of veggies (non starch) only. I am to avoid fruit ( :( ), dairy, nuts/nut milks, grains, starches, sugars, carbonated drinks, coffee, black or green tea, and alcohol. I'm supplementing my diet with Isopure Protein Drinks. No snacking, 64 oz Water minimum a day. It's hard because I work in an office setting and there are always donuts and Bagels around but I am determined to do what I'm supposed to do to get to the next step. If my liver is still too large at my next appt I'll have to keep up this diet until it's small enough. I don't want to do anything that will delay me getting my surgery scheduled.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
