Hey!! Just wondering if there is anyone else who is a type 1 diabetic on an insulin pump. Just wondering how they handle your insulin. I am getting all the testing done now, but the only thing that is reading me out is the risk of severe hypoglycemia. Just wondering if anyone else has been thru this. ????

I am also type 1 diabetic, on the insulin pump and having the gastric bypass surgery. I've been diabetic since I was eleven. I have completed all of the pre-surgery tests but one thing-have to get a heart xray because my EKG result was abnormal and indicated a possible silent heart attack. Hmm...the cardiologist said it could be that the reading is incorrect and just wants to rule this out. She said diabetics are more likely to have heart attacks with no symptoms. I am learning so much on this journey. Anyway, if that test comes back normal, I will be all cleared and then meet with the surgeon. I, too, am concerned about hypoglycemia and want to make sure I have my basal rates, etc. how they should be given that everything will be changing in the amount and way I will be eating. My endo wants me to schedule an apt. with her as soon as my surgery date is given so we can go over all of it and decide how to proceed. She worked very closely with me when I was pregnant with my son (now two) and I really trust her judgment. I know it will be a learning process and anticipate some ups and downs (mainly downs) with my diabetes, but I hope that once the rates are adjusted and I learn my new body and figure out how it responds to food, stress, etc., things will calm down.

I'd love to know more about you! We are about the same weight too. I am 41 yrs. old. I also have hypothyroidism. Sorry I have no real advice I can give you as of yet. : ) Good luck to you!

Mommyonamission- Hey!!! Thanks so much for replying!! So nice to have someone else who will be going through similar issues like me. I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes a week after my 6th birthday- so most of my life!! Sorry to hear about the cardiac issues- hopefully it will turn out to be nothing ! ( fingers crossed! ) I will be starting my appointments on Monday- Nutrition class and then I am going to attend a support group meeting Tuesday night. Then the next week will be US, PCP, and Psych. I am relatively new to this area so I have only seen my Endo a few times- and he's not a very 'warm and fuzzy' type person so this should be interesting! Hopefully I can work with his Diabetic Educator for most of the adjustments. I have met with the surgeon a couple times and he is really nice!!! The strange thing was that I never even thought about WLS because I have read that they rarely do it on type 1 diabetics! I called to make an appointment and they asked me if I want medical or surgical- I told them I am type 1 and she said they do type 1's all the time!! So mid-Jan, I met with the surgeon and here I am!!

I would love to be 'buddies' since we will be going thru this around the same time- and both have toddlers!!! We can 'vent' to each other lol

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
