Six Month Post op Rules for the Pouch

Recommended Posts

I saw this web site from becal2015 over on the sleeve side and it has a PDF file called "Pouch Rules for Dummies". I found the document very informative and it has 8 rules of the pouch that should be followed after the sixth month of surgery. If you're a six month plus vet do you think these are good rules to follow?

I don't know. I found it a bit confusing and counter to a lot of what I have already been told so I'm not sure how I feel about this article. And it was not very well written. It confused me more than anything. If others feel differently, I would love to hear about it.

I agree, it seems to contradict things that I've been told at my practice.

I'd also worry about the "Water loading," that just doesn't seem good!

I totally agree there was no mention of malabsorbtion which is really the basis of weight loss with bypass surgery. We lose the weight not only because we are eating small amounts of food. But because our system is re routed not to absorb nutrients carbs sugars fats etc. Hence why we need to take Vitamins for life. At a recent support group one of the surgeons on hand explained that our new stomachs doesn't stretch or gey bigger. But what does start to happen around the 2 year mark is that the opening of the base of the pouch gets a bit bigger which in turn let food pass faster from our pouch to our intestines. Also our intestine learn to absorb more around this stage so the malabsorbtion stops or slows down. So if still don't watch what we eat and go back to high fat high carbs that's what our body will be absorbing hence some plp regaining a few pounds. This is the way he put it. A bag a small chips a day equals to a pound a week and if you eat a bag a day for a year you can gain up to 50lbs. So it isn't so much of stretching the pouch or not feeling full there's a lot more to it

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
