My Reality check at 20 months

Recommended Posts

Hello. My name is Jo. I am 20 months post op and I've hit a stall. I got in the scale this morning and it was up 10 pounds from my lowest weight which was at the end of summer. I have started to want to eat all the time and not eat the healthiest. I got back on track today and think it went well. But has anyone else hit this same stall/gain? I'm feeling really discouraged that 10 pounds snuck up so easily and quickly. I'm terrified that if that 10 was so easy to gain back there could be more to come!! Help I would love your suggestions as to how to get my mind set back as well my old habits and stay on track. Thanks so much for taking the time to read this or reply :)

I'm about 7 months out, so in a different place for sure. But in the last couple months I'm finding I'm much hungrier than I was early on. What helps me feel more in control is keeping as low carb as I can. The more carbs I eat the hungrier I am the rest of the day. And eating more veggies helps of course to keep overall calories down at each meal.

Not everyone likes to track, but I just can't lose without doing it. It helps me stay honest with myself and think before putting things in my mouth.

Great you're catching this now! You can absolutely take control again.

Just want to add that I see a lot of posts like this, so you're very much not alone. You might want to search the site for regain etc. Also - take a look in the vets forum. I think that's where there's a thread about the 5:2 method, where you eat normally for 5 days of the week and 2 days a week you eat very low calories - about 5-600 I think. Apparently it really helps jumpstart losing again.

Awesome!! Thanks sooooo much. It's so nice to know that I'm not alone. I was really feeling discouraged and feeling like I'm failing or doing something wrong. I will definitely check it out. :)

I don't know about you, but I've lost and gained weight in my long life more times than I could count right now.

The behaviors that accompanied my earlier weight gains include:

* "Celebrating" after losing weight

* NOT having a weight maintenance plan. AT ALL!

* NEVER weighing myself

* Eating LOTS of sweets and carbs

* NOT tracking / recording / being mindful of how much I'm eating

* NOT exercising

* Feeling like a regain 5-10 pounds is so awful I can't deal with it. Ha!

Needless to say, I didn't have the benefit of a smaller tummy's restriction during all those prior times. But I also am no longer counting on that saving me this time. My long-term success is going to have to rely on ALL the tools I'm building now.

Everyone's entitled to their own personal version of weight loss salvation. I currently belong to the Church of Righteous Daily food Tracking and Weighing. ;)

P.S. I shouldn't even be posting on this thread; I'm not even 5-1/2 months post-op. Sorry.

It is a good thing that you caught the 10 lbs now before it really got out of control. You got this. You can do this. Remember how have come. Good Luck.

      I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

      Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
      Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

      Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
